And Just Like That… didn’t shy away from the female reproductive system during episode nine of the Sex And The City reboot, as Charlotte smugly reveals she had ‘finally’ started the menopause – before getting a public period.

Charlotte York Goldenblatt appears delighted to say goodbye to her periods, while helping her teenage daughter Lily come to terms with her own – but shocks herself and others when she receives a ‘flash’ period in a white jumpsuit while helping out Miranda’s friend at a women’s shelter.

Aside from the candid storyline, Miranda suffers a bump in the road as she navigates her new relationship with non-binary Che, as she attempts to throw out the rule book and surprise them – but Che is less than impressed by Miranda’s ‘Meg Ryan’ moment and they have a heated discussion in the stairwell. 

As Miranda wrestles with her modern relationship, Carrie struggles to say goodbye to her own, as she cancels her ‘do over’ date with teacher Pete after being unable to take off her wedding ring from her late husband, Mr Big.

Episode nine begins with a familiar scene of Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda sitting in their cafe swapping stories, as married mother of two Charlotte tells widowed Carrie she is ‘so excited about her date with the teacher’.

Complimenting his physical appearance, she says: ‘That is one great head of hair’.

Carrie corrects Charlotte and insists that it is NOT a ‘date’, but rather a ‘do-over between two people who got sick to one another’, refering to their dinner in episode seven when they both vomitted on the street while saying their goodbyes.

The conversation soon moves from dating to manual labour, as Miranda requests the help of her two friends to help paint the women’s shelter with her professor-turned-pal Nya Wallace.

While Charlotte – in typical Charlotte fashion – immediately jumps at the chance to help out and says she will bring her children Rock and Lily along, Carrie offers to donate to the shelter instead.

Following the new woke tone of the show, Miranda tells her: ‘You can’t be the white lady who just writes a cheque.’

Charlotte then admits she thinks she is ‘done’ with periods and tells them she believes she has begun the menopause, after not receiving her period for four months.

‘Smug’ Charlotte, then proceeds in telling them she hasn’t yet had any of the feared menopause symptoms including ‘hot flashes, breast tenderness or braig fog’… or any of the ‘awful’ symptoms the other two had.

The call is interupted when Charlotte hears a scream, before finding Lily shrieking that she has got her period and she is next due when her friend is hosting a pool party.

Charlotte tells Lily her options are learning to use a tampon – which she will help her with – or she has to skip the party.

While standing there, Carrie asks Seema to snap a picture of the ring from Lisette, before questioning if she should still be wearing her wedding ring. She mulls over whether it’s appropriate as she is ‘no longer married’ and is back on the dating scene.

After ditching the club when the doorman refused to let them skip the queue – despite bribing him with some cash – they head to a resturant to finish their evening with champagne and cake.

Seema discusses over her single status and forebodingly tells Carrie she hopes her 54th guy is the one where she meets a man.

Carrie tells him: ‘See I went to take off my wedding ring before I came here and I’m sorry for the rushed intimacy, but it’s the only way to let you know that this is not about you – instead of putting mine away I put John’s on, that’s my husband’s name, and this is his wedding ring, I remarried myself with a band aid.’

He tells her: ‘Hey Carrie that’s strike two, one more and we’re out’, they hug and he adds: ‘That was the best rejection ever.’

Before asking: ‘Do you want me to just show you – on me?’, Lily tells her ‘ew, gross no!’

After further wrestling with it, Lily finally manages to insert it before they all sit down to burnt Challah [Jewish bread], which Harry has forgotten to take out of the oven.

During an awkward meal, Charlotte apologies for taking so long, while Anthony adds: ‘I’m sorry I brought Justin.’

Miranda questions her and asks what are we then, and Che explains they are simply getting to know each other. Before adding in her own defence that she is trying to throw out the rule book – as instructed by Che.

Che then reassures her that she is the only person she is sleeping with currently. Che asks her to come upstairs and although she wants to oblige, Miranda tells her: ‘I’m going to leave, because that’s what Meg Ryan would do.’

The following day the women meet at the shelter to help with the painting and Carrie is surprised to see that Steve has turned up to help. Miranda tells her: ‘We were going to do this as a family thing, and we’re still a family.’

Miranda explains that she has likely had a ‘flash’ period, which happened to her months after she believed hers had stopped during a court case.
