And Just Like That… Episode Nine SPOILER ALERT

And Just Like That… didn’t shy away from the female reproductive system during episode nine of the Sex And The City reboot, as Charlotte smugly reveals she had ‘finally’ started the menopause – before getting a public period.

Charlotte York Goldenblatt appears delighted to say goodbye to her periods, while helping her teenage daughter Lily come to terms with her own – but shocks herself and others when she receives a ‘flash’ period in a white jumpsuit while helping out Miranda’s friend at a women’s shelter.

Aside from the candid storyline, Miranda suffers a bump in the road as she navigates her new relationship with non-binary Che, as she attempts to throw out the rule book and surprise them – but Che is less than impressed by Miranda’s ‘Meg Ryan’ moment and they have a heated discussion in the stairwell.

As Miranda wrestles with her modern relationship, Carrie struggles to say goodbye to her own, as she cancels her ‘do over’ date with teacher Pete after being unable to take off her wedding ring from her late husband, Mr Big.

Oh god! And Just Like That… didn’t shy away from the female reproductive system during episode nine of the Sex And The City reboot, as Charlotte smugly reveals she had ‘finally’ started the menopause – before getting a public period

Episode nine begins with a familiar scene of Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda sitting in their cafe swapping stories, as married mother of two Charlotte tells widowed Carrie she is ‘so excited about her date with the teacher’.

Complimenting his physical appearance, she says: ‘That is one great head of hair’.

Carrie corrects Charlotte and insists that it is NOT a ‘date’, but rather a ‘do-over between two people who got sick to one another’, refering to their dinner in episode seven when they both vomitted on the street while saying their goodbyes.

What's going on? Aside from the candid storyline, Miranda suffers a bump in the road as she navigates her new relationship with non-binary Che

The conversation soon moves from dating to manual labour, as Miranda requests the help of her two friends to help paint the women’s shelter with her professor-turned-pal Nya Wallace.

While Charlotte – in typical Charlotte fashion – immediately jumps at the chance to help out and says she will bring her children Rock and Lily along, Carrie offers to donate to the shelter instead.

Following the new woke tone of the show, Miranda tells her: ‘You can’t be the white lady who just writes a cheque.’

Changing the subject, Charlotte says: ‘Remember for how long I was still regularly getting my period for years after you stopped getting yours…’

Carrie replies: : ‘It has been so long since we heard from smug Charlotte, I was afraid she’d retired.’

Charlotte then admits she thinks she is ‘done’ with periods and tells them she believes she has begun the menopause, after not receiving her period for four months.

‘Smug’ Charlotte, then proceeds in telling them she hasn’t yet had any of the feared menopause symptoms including ‘hot flashes, breast tenderness or braig fog’… or any of the ‘awful’ symptoms the other two had.

After returning home from their brunch date, Carrie receives a visit from her ‘cool-girl’ neighbour downstairs, who gifts her with a piece from her jewellery range.

Her downstairs neighbour Lisette Alee tells her she would be ‘so stoked’ if she wore the piece out, or put it on her Instagram page. The conversation proves that it is actually Lisette who thinks Carrie is the ‘cool girl’, as she admits she is ‘obsessed’ with her podcast.

When Carrie puts on the new jewellery, Lisette notices Carrie’s wedding ring and tells her its beautiful but she didn’t realise she was married as she’s ‘never seen the guy’ and asks if it’s long distance.

Carrie quips that it is definitely long distance, before revealing Mr Big’s death.

Elsewere, Charlotte is helping Rock with their ‘they-mitzvah’ practice when she receives a call from BFF Anthony Marantino, who is dressed like one of his ‘hot guy’ employees – delivering bread to customers.

He jokes: ‘Today I’m the hot guy, and if they don’t agree – I’ll sue them.’

The call is interupted when Charlotte hears a scream, before finding Lily shrieking that she has got her period and she is next due when her friend is hosting a pool party.

Charlotte tells Lily her options are learning to use a tampon – which she will help her with – or she has to skip the party.

In another part of town, Carrie is enjoying a night out with Seema, as they wait in line for a club and the real estate agent jokes she can’t remember the last time she waited in line.

Making clear her vaccinated status, Carrie says: ‘When I got my vaccine.’

Seema quips: ‘Oh honey you should have known be back then, I got mine before the President.’

While standing there, Carrie asks Seema to snap a picture of the ring from Lisette, before questioning if she should still be wearing her wedding ring. She mulls over whether it’s appropriate as she is ‘no longer married’ and is back on the dating scene.

After ditching the club when the doorman refused to let them skip the queue – despite bribing him with some cash – they head to a resturant to finish their evening with champagne and cake.

Seema discusses over her single status and forebodingly tells Carrie she hopes her 54th guy is the one where she meets a man.

While preparing dinner for Anthony and his new boyfriend, Charlotte turns to find her daughter Lily stood in the kitchen asking if she will teach her how to use a tampon.

Despite the doorbell ringing and her guests arriving, Charlotte tells her that of course she will help and ushers her to the bathroom while her husband Harry greets Anthony and his new beau.

The new boyfriend asks: ‘Is this a Jewish dinner?, before shockingly adding: ‘You know the holocaust was a hoax right?’. Without missing a beat, Anthony screams at him to GET OUT.’

Before her date, Carrie toys with the idea of taking off her wedding ring. But rather than removing it, Carrie instead puts her late husband’s on.

Sullen Carrie arrives at the dinner and Peter can immediately tell something is up, asking her: ‘We’re not going to have dinner tonight are we?’

Carrie tells him: ‘See I went to take off my wedding ring before I came here and I’m sorry for the rushed intimacy, but it’s the only way to let you know that this is not about you – instead of putting mine away I put John’s on, that’s my husband’s name, and this is his wedding ring, I remarried myself with a band aid.’

Clearly understanding of her situation, Peter tells her: ‘Maybe this dating thing with us is a band aid too, trying to cover up something that clearly still hurts.’

Relating to her, he says: ‘I still have Anne’s [his late wife] last voicemail on here [his mobile], I play it all of the time.’

He tells her: ‘Hey Carrie that’s strike two, one more and we’re out’, they hug and he adds: ‘That was the best rejection ever.’

Back at the York-Goldenblatt’s Charlotte is instructing Lily how to insert a tampon, explaining she can put one leg up on the toilet, and telling her: ‘Remember there’s really only one hole it can go into.’

Before asking: ‘Do you want me to just show you – on me?’, Lily tells her ‘ew, gross no!’

After further wrestling with it, Lily finally manages to insert it before they all sit down to burnt Challah [Jewish bread], which Harry has forgotten to take out of the oven.

During an awkward meal, Charlotte apologies for taking so long, while Anthony adds: ‘I’m sorry I brought Justin.’

In another awkward encounter across town, Miranda surprises Che with her arrival and a box of Cookies. However Che seems less than impressed with her spontaneity, and says: ‘Oh god did we have a plan? Did I space.’

Che says she feels ‘awkward’ and Miranda then questions if she has somebody over but Che explains that she was spending the evening writing and says she wishes Miranda would have called or text first.

Mortified Miranda then dashes down the hall shouting: ‘I’m gone – this never happened. I never should have come, so f***ing stupid. Who do I think I am? F***ing Meg Ryan.’

Che questions what is going on and Miranda replies: ‘I don’t know, I don’t know why I did this. If you were a guy I had just started seeing I would never turn up on your doorstep unannounced with cookies.’

Che begins: ‘This isn’t going to work..’

She is soon interrupted by Miranda who shouts: ‘What do you mean this isn’t going to work? This has to work.’

Che replies: ‘Please just let me finish my thought, this isn’t going to work if you lock us into those f***ing limiting relationship tropes, guys do this and girlfriends do that… I’m not cosplay.’

‘I’m not a guy, you’re not my girlfriend and we’re not dating.’

Miranda questions her and asks what are we then, and Che explains they are simply getting to know each other. Before adding in her own defence that she is trying to throw out the rule book – as instructed by Che.

The following day the women meet at the shelter to help with the painting and Carrie is surprised to see that Steve has turned up to help. Miranda tells her: ‘We were going to do this as a family thing, and we’re still a family.’
