Police officers and other first transponders were on hand to assist with the rescue. The victim appeared to walk away from the collision unharmed.

There is no word at this time on what caused the commercial box truck to smash into the concrete median, leaving it partially resting on its side.

According to a video posted on the app Citizen, firefighters responded to reports of the accident on the BQE near Queens Boulevard at around 1.15pm.

Cuomo’s spokesperson Dani Lever told CNN, where his younger brother, Chris, is an anchor, that the NYPD had not arrived yet by the time Cuomo and his escort of state police officers came across the crash scene, so the governor got out of his car, approached the truck and freed the passenger.

Cuomo, was coming off an already busy morning, having announced a plan to create a massive transit complex on Manhattan’s West Side, which would incorporate the existing Penn Station and the soon-to-be completed Moynihan Train Hall.
