Liverpool defender Andy Robertson says he hopes the club can ‘reach a solution’ with team-mate Mo Salah over a new deal at Anfield.

Salah has made a sensational start to the season scoring 15 goals in 12 appearances, the most recent of which saw him score a hat-trick in a 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United at the weekend.

The Egyptian also produced two moments of magic with incredible solo goals in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City and 5-0 victory over Watford.

Andy Robertson has repeated echoes that Mo Salah is the best player in the world

Liverpool are attempting to get their star player to a sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2023.

When asked about the topic, Robertson told Sky Sports: ‘I hope that I can continue to play with him. I love playing with Mo and I love playing with all the lads around me and you don’t want to see anyone leave.

‘Let’s leave it up to the club and Mo – I’m sure everyone’s trying to get to an agreement that can work for everyone.

‘Hopefully they can reach a solution because if he’s not the world’s best, he’s definitely in the discussion for it and they’re the type of players you want at this club, they’re the type of players that the fans at his club deserve. Hopefully that continues and he can stay for a bit longer.’

Salah previously said that he wants to spend the rest of his career at Anfield, but that his future ‘depends on the club’.

Liverpool are unbeaten in all competitions so far this season, with Salah’s exceptional form playing a key part in their early success.

His performances had led many to believe that the 29-year-old is currently the best player in the world.

Robertson has echoed those sentiments as he said: ‘He’s an incredible player and I think at this moment he’s the world’s best and he’ll want to continue that.

‘He won’t want it for nine or 10 games, which he’s done so far, he’ll want to do it for a whole season like he’s done previously and hopefully he can do it, because it gives us the best chance of scoring goals and winning trophies.’

Robertson was one of many Liverpool players who were able to tie themselves down to new deals at the club in recent months.

Salah has 20 months left on his deal and Liverpool are likely going to have to make him the highest-earner in the club’s history to get his signature on paper.
