Ange Postecoglou AGREES to become Tottenham’s new boss on a three-year deal

Tottenham are appointing Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach as chairman Daniel Levy continues to play hardball over Harry Kane’s future.

Postecoglou has agreed to become Spurs’ new boss with just the formalities of his appointment left to complete.

It is understood the Australian will sign a deal of up to three years. An announcement confirming his arrival is expected to be made in the next 48 hours.

Mail Sport reported on Sunday that Tottenham were to make a formal approach to Celtic with a view to discussing their managerial vacancy with Postecoglou this week.

Those discussions have accelerated with Postecoglou, who is on 12-month rolling contract at Parkhead, now on the verge of being handed the reins after the two clubs agreed on the terms of his release.

Luis Enrique and Fulham head coach Marco Silva also made the latter stages of the recruitment process.

But Postecoglou has significant support from within the Tottenham hierarchy and will now be tasked with reviving a club that finished eighth in the Premier League last season and is without a trophy since 2008.

Kane is wanted by Real Madrid and Manchester United this summer but as it stands Levy is adamant he does not want to sell the 29-year-old despite running the risk of losing him for nothing next year.

Nevertheless, Real and United remain primed to launch bids to sign Kane this summer, though the fact Levy is staunchly against selling the England captain to a domestic rival leaves the Spanish club better placed to successfully land the forward.

However, there are doubts at Tottenham that Real will be able to reach anywhere near their minimum £100million valuation of Kane given their anticipated move to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham, 19, is expected to join the La Liga giants this summer, but will cost in the region of £100m.

And there is a sense at Tottenham that even if Levy was to soften his current stance later in the window, that Madrid would be reluctant to spend a nine-figure sum for Kane.

Real will look to negotiate a lower fee for Kane, who is viewed as the club’s No 1 striker target following the departure of iconic figure Karim Benzema.

Well-placed sources have indicated that a deal of around £80million, plus achievable add-ons could be enough to tempt Levy into selling to Real – but only later in the transfer window.

Real Madrid also have a long-term interest in signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, a future transfer that could influence how much they are willing to pay for Kane.

Chelsea’s Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku have been discussed as candidates to fill the void left by Benzema if their interest in Kane fails to materialise.
