Angela Bishop reflects on the tragic death of her husband Peter Baikie

Angela Bishop has reflected on the tragic death of her late husband Peter Baikie.

In an interview with Woman’s Day on Monday, the Studio 10 host revealed the extent of her heartbreak one year after Peter died aged 54 from a rare form of cancer.

‘Nothing will be tougher than that, watching the person you love die,’ Angela, 51, said.

‘You do prepare but it was unexpected – we didn’t know he was going to pass,’ she added.

Angela and Peter’s 11-year-old daughter Amelia also confessed she was still struggling following her father’s death.

‘I’m never going to forgive that stupid cancer. It killed my daddy. There’s a big hole in my life because dad’s gone,’ she said.

Back in 2016, mechanic Peter was diagnosed with primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma, after initially being wrongly diagnosed with pneumonia.

The next 22 months were filled with highs and lows as Peter vowed to fight the disease while undergoing intense treatment.

Sadly, he lost his battle with the disease in November last year and he was remembered as a ‘much-loved husband’ and ‘adored father’ in a statement.

‘It is with a heavy heart that Angela Bishop, family and friends advise you of the passing of Angela’s much-loved husband, Peter Baikie,’ it read.

‘Peter is the adored father of Amelia, sister of Wendy Rylance, cherished son-in-law of Bronwyn Bishop and brother-in-law of Sally Bishop.

‘His courage in fighting this disease left all that shared his journey full of immense admiration.’

Angela, who is the daughter of former Australian politician Bronwyn Bishop, met Peter 16 years ago and they wed in 2005.
