Angelica Hale blows away Simon Cowell on the AGT finals

Angelica Hale opened the finale of America’s Got Talent with such style on Tuesday that the judges said she may as well have been closing out the show.

The 10-year-old singer proved that she is certainly ‘in it to win it’ with an impressive performance of Clean Bandit’s Symphony, and had the judges totally swooning.

Angelica’s rendition of the song was accompanied by string musicians in silhouette and a sparks show behind her at the tune’s climax.

The young star wore a gold sequined dress for the show and managed to hit every big note as she belted out the lyrics.

Upon finishing, Trya Banks ran onto the stage shouting: ‘Hitting that note lady! Hitting that note again!’

Heidi, who previously called Angelica her ‘personal favorite,’ started off the judge’s comments, declaring: ‘Oh my gosh you are only four feet tall, but you are a giant! Unbelievable!’

Howie chimed in, saying: ‘What a way to open this show! This is the finale and that felt like that was the finale! That was the way to close the show, let alone open it!’

Mel B was similarly blown away by Angelica’s performance, saying that she looked ‘comfortable and confident’ and without ‘one ounce of nervousness’ on the stage.

‘You took the stage and you controlled every note. That was just amazing! Absolutely amazing!’ Mel gushed.

When it came to Simon, the tough critic admitted that he was ‘gobsmacked,’ adding that he could tell the song was the 10-year-old’s personal choice and not that of any adult telling her what to sing.

Simon then went on to compare the pint-sized powerhouse to huge pop stars like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, saying that ‘we may be sooner rather than later looking back on this performance to go: This is the moment your career started! Angelica, you have my absolute respect.’

Thanks to this and her previous performances, Angelica has been tipped to be one of the top competitors for the million dollar prize, along with 12-year-old ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer, who similarly blew the judges away with her rendition of With a Little Help From My Friends using two puppets.

Angelica and Darci will be competing alongside eight other finalists including the likes of singers Evie Clair, Kechi, Chase Goehring and Mandy Harvey, dance groups Diavolo and Light Balance and stand-up comedian Preacher Lawson.

The winner of America’s Got Talent will be announced tonight on NBC.
