Anna Kendrick was pushed to her breaking point by a psychologically abusive boyfriend in a new trailer released on Wednesday for the thriller Alice, Darling. 

The 37-year-old actress portrays the title character trapped in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend Simon, played by Charlie Carrick, after being in a recent psychologically abusive relationship herself.

The trailer for Alice, Darling opened with Alice meeting up with friends Tess [Kaniehtiio Horn] and Sophie [Wunmi Mosaku] at a bar.

They invited her to a week-long getaway to celebrate a birthday.

Alice looked nervous as they asked if she was going to come and then was shown practicing an excuse for her boyfriend.

She walked with Simon and told him that she had to go to a ‘sales thing’ that just came up.

‘We just really want you to relax,’ Sophie told Alice during the birthday getaway.’

‘Relax in what way?,’ Alice asked.

Alice then privately spoke with Simon on the phone and later told her friends that she had to leave early.

Alice was then shown suffering from trichotillomania as she pulled clumps of hair that landed softly on the floor.

Simon then surprisingly showed up after learning Alice’s location by reading her email.

‘Nobody loves you like I love you. My beautiful, girl,’ Simon said as images showed Alice attempting to get some freedom.

Alice, Darling premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Lionsgate film will begin its theatrical run on December 30 in Los Angeles and will expand to AMC Theaters nationwide on January 20, 2023.

Alice, Darling is directed by English filmmaker Mary Nighy, 38, who makes her feature directorial debut with the thriller.
