Annastacia Palaszczuk wants Crocodile Dundee remake in Qld

It was the $36 million Tourism Australia ad that fooled some of Hollywood’s brightest stars into thinking there would be a Crocodile Dundee remake.

Now Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has thrown her support behind a possible reboot.

Speaking to News Corp on Tuesday, the 48-year-old said that after the success of Aquaman – which was recently filmed in Queensland – the state would love to keep the blockbusters coming.

She’s on board! On Tuesday, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk revealed she would get on board with a Crocodile Dundee remake if it was filmed and produced in her State

‘Queensland has just had one of its best years in terms of film production, with blockbusters like Aquaman and other productions increasing the spend to $214 million last financial year,’ she said.

‘This is an important industry for Queensland. It supported more than 2300 jobs in 2016-17.’

Heading to film studios in Los Angeles later this month on behalf of Screen Queensland, Annastacia said she hopes her large investments will continue to attract filmmakers to the sunny coast.

‘I announced a further $20 million for Screen Queensland – to continue attracting international blockbusters and domestic film and TV productions to our State to create jobs and boost our local industry,’ she continued.

And Annastacia’s not the only one who’d like to see a reboot.

Speaking to news.com.au on Tuesday, advertisement headliner Chris Hemsworth too said he’d be interested in turning the short clip into a full-length feature film.

‘Hearing such a positive response from a fan point of view, I would definitely be open to it,’ said the 34-year-old Thor star.

Chris added that he’d need a ‘great script’ before jumping on board, but admitted he is already thinking about his upcoming schedule and if a Crocodile Dundee reboot could work or not.

But the reboot may already be dead in the water with Crocodile Dundee creator, Paul Hogan, revealing he would not be making a fourth film.

The blockbuster commercial aired on Sunday to more than 100 million Super Bowl viewers in the US as part of a Tourism Australia campaign targeting American travelers.

The publication reports that Chris could be Tourism Australia’s ‘$6 billion man,’ with the ad being worth a whopping $36 million and sales being estimated to reach $6 billion.
