‘I hope Scott Morrison gets tough with a few backhanders’: New audio reveals shocking severity of Alan Jones’ tirade against New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern

  • Shock jock Alan Jones has been warned that he could be fired following offence
  • Jones said Scott Morrison should ‘shove a sock’ down Jacinda Ardern’s throat
  • That wasn’t the only concerning comment made by the 78-year-old broadcaster
  • Shock jock suggested Morrison ‘gets tough here with a few backhanders’

Radio broadcaster Alan Jones was forced to apologise after he suggested Scott Morrison ‘shove a sock down’ the Kiwi leader’s throat last week.

However, that wasn’t the only concerning comment made by the 78-year-old broadcaster.

Audio aired by ABC’s Media Watch last night has uncovered Jones’ original attack on Jacinda Ardern.

Advertisers have been pulling funding from the 2GB show since Jones suggested Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison ‘shove a sock down’ the Kiwi leader’s throat

On August 15, Jones could be heard saying: ‘This lightweight New Zealand Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern is challenging Scott Morrison over climate change. Now I hope Scott Morrison gets tough here with a few backhanders … hasn’t got a clue this woman’

‘This lightweight New Zealand Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern is challenging Scott Morrison over climate change. Now I hope Scott Morrison gets tough here with a few backhanders … hasn’t got a clue this woman.’

The new audio has stirred up calls for Jones to be sacked.

‘Fancy being a business and sponsoring this vile man,’  one Twitter user wrote.

Another said: ‘Pull their broadcast licence. They never discipline Jones for his outbursts. Metaphorical or not, suggesting violence towards a female leader and ally of Australia is a step too far.’

Another claimed Jones’ use of the phrase ‘backhander’ revealed a ‘gender threat’.

‘Backhander is absolutely a gendered threat — reserved for men to keep women in line. It’s vile and repulsive. No Australian broadcaster should tolerate this language.’

Advertisers have been pulling funding from Jones’ 2GB show since outrage was sparked over the original comment where the shock jock suggested Morrison ‘shove a sock down’ the Kiwi leader’s throat.

Koala Mattress, Anytime Fitness and Volkswagen were the latest brands to cut ties with the show.

Jacinda Ardern has been accused by Jones of excluding agriculture and methane from her calculations, because they 'contribute half of New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions'
