Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn sees no obstacle to all-British showdown with Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn insists he sees no obstacle to the all-British showdown with Tyson Fury going ahead in December… and has been assured the contract will be with him in the next few days

  • Tyson Fury challenged Anthony Joshua to fight him before the end of 2022
  • Joshua has now accepted Fury’s terms and wants to fight him on December 3
  • A 60-40 purse split in favour of WBC champion Fury had already been agreed

Eddie Hearn sees no obstacle to the British blockbuster fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury going ahead in December.

Joshua’s promoter – here in Vegas for Canelo Alvarez’s trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin – reveals that AJ insisted on accepting Fury’s terms to prevent their long-awaited battle going the way of so many big fights that never happened.

Hearn says: ‘I wanted to try negotiating better than the 60-40 purse split in favour of Fury. Or at least the same for AJ rather than 50-50 in the event of a rematch.

‘But he felt this fight would be lost if it doesn’t take place now and agreed Fury’s deal. We’re assured the contract will be with us in the next day or two.

‘As long as it reflects Tyson’s offer – which the Warrens say it does – the fight’s on.

‘AJ’s all in. So are BT Sports and DAZN for shared pay-per-view televising.

‘We hope Tyson’s not playing one of his games but we’re told not. That he wants this fight as much as AJ.’

Tyson made the first move after Olexsandr Usyk, having taken Joshua’s world heavyweight belts, asked for a compassionate delay until at least February before fighting WBC champion Fury for the undisputed title.

To keep that super-fight in place Fury insists on facing Joshua no later than December 3, the projected date under the roof at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
