Antonio Brown gets probation after no contest plea for battery

NFL free agent Antonio Brown has pleaded no contest and was sentenced to two years probation over allegations he hurled rocks at a moving truck driver while high this year.

On Friday, a Broward County judge in Florida ordered Brown, 31, to complete two years of probation, undergo a psychiatric evaluation and take a 13-week anger management course.

Under the terms of his probation, Brown is allowed to travel nationwide, Local 10 reports.

This means Brown, who’s been a free agent since he was released from the New England Patriots, could travel if he makes a return to the league.

Brown must also complete 100 hours of community service and stay away from the two victims in the battery case. He previously pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Brown declined to comment on his sentencing to reporters when he left the Fort Lauderdale courthouse.

The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver was initially charged with felony burglary with assault or battery, burglary of an occupied conveyance and criminal mischief in Hollywood, Florida.

The incident happened in January when the truck driver said that Brown and his trainer, Glenn Holt, threw rocks at him and the company’s moving truck while high.

‘The guy is high, he smoked, he threatened me,’ the purported victim said in a 911 call that was obtained by TMZ. ‘He’s trying to fight, he throws stones at my truck.’

At no point does the driver specifically say what Brown had allegedly been smoking.

The driver claimed in the 911 call that Brown did not pay him the agreed $4,000 payment for his services, which echoes previous allegations made against Brown.

The driver later explained that he was delivering items to Brown from California.

As he started to drive away, the driver said Brown threw a rock at the truck and dented it. The driver then called the police.

‘I’m trying to make delivery to the gentleman,’ the driver said. ‘I called him and told him he has to pay the balance. The guy refused to pay.’

The driver said Brown eventually paid the $4,000 but would not pay additional money for damage to the truck, which led to an argument and a physical altercation.

The driver said Brown forced his way into the truck cabin and hit him, and that Holt later took the truck keys from the driver so Brown could unload his property.

Holt was arrested and charged with one count of burglary with battery, and he was arraigned at the Broward County Jail. He was later released after posting a $20,000 bond

Brown turned himself into police and arrived to the Broward County Jail two days after the incident after an arrest warrant was issued.

His bail was set at $110,000. Brown was ordered to surrender his passport, possess no weapons or ammunition and submit to a mental health evaluation and random drug testing.

Brown was placed on house arrest, but a Florida judge on January 25 freed him from the order and allowed the athlete to remove his ankle bracelet ahead of his trial.

Since his departure from the Steelers in 2018, Brown has found himself the center of controversies and run-ins with law enforcement.

In September 2019, Brown was accused by his former personal trainer, 28-year-old Britney Taylor, of raping her in May 2018.  She alleged he tried to force himself on her once before.

In her lawsuit, she says he ‘preyed’ on her ‘kindness’ and ‘religious devotion’ by pretending to share her faith.

They met when they were paired as bible study partners while studying at Central Michigan University in 2010 and, Taylor claims, got back in touch in 2017 when he needed help with his flexibility and ankle strength.

Taylor, who is from Tennessee and would travel to Florida and Pittsburgh to train Brown, says he sexually assaulted her by forcibly trying to kiss her and then ejaculating on her back in 2017 at one of his homes.

She also claims he raped her in May 2018 in Miami after a night out with another, unnamed football player.

In her statement through her attorney, she told DailyMail.com: ‘As a rape victim of Antonio Brown, deciding to speak out has been an incredibly difficult decision.’

Brown denied the allegations and called it a ‘money grab.’

He also made headlines after he posted a live social-media feed of an encounter with Hollywood police where he used explicit language and called officers explicit names as authorities were responding to a domestic incident at Brown’s home.

In the videos, he repeatedly spoke ill of the mother of his three children, Chelsie Kyriss.

Kyriss said she felt that Brown’s burglary incident was a sign of his ‘desperate’ need of ‘mental health treatment’.

‘Over the last few years I have stood at the side of my children’s father Antonio Brown and watched the rise and fall of an incredible man and athlete,’ Kyriss shared in an Instagram post.

‘Our children and I have distanced ourselves from him and our former home. Although we have parted ways I wish nothing but the best for him.

‘Unfortunately, it seems Antonio has made questionable choices and continues to ignore the advice of those who love and support him. At this point the boys and I are working on building a new life free from any impulsive, reckless and unhealthy behaviors.

‘My hope is that Antonio will get help and seek the mental health treatment that he so desperately needs so that he can be the father all of his children need and deserve.’

The oft-controversial wide receiver played in just one game last season after being cut by two teams, most recently the New England Patriots.

After a trade to the Oakland Raiders last offseason, Brown was released toward the end of training camp after continued conflict with the organization that started when his helmet was considered to no longer be in compliance with NFL safety rules.

He was released by the Patriots after sexual and personal misconduct accusations were made against him.

His former agent, Drew Rosenhaus, announced he had ‘conditionally’ terminated his relationship with Brown until the wide receiver sought professional help.
