Antonio Rudiger ‘wants Tottenham loan move but Chelsea are reluctant to let him join rivals as Frank Lampard gets set to snub defender once again against Crystal Palace this afternoon’

  • Antonio Rudiger has not made the Chelsea squad since their match at Brighton
  • The Germany international is looking for an exit after falling out of favour
  • The Athletic report that London rivals Tottenham are his preferred destination
  • But relations have soured between them since Fernando Llorente joined Spurs

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger prefers a loan move to Tottenham but the west London side are reluctant to sanction the transfer, according to reports.

The Germany centre-back has fallen out of favour under Frank Lampard, having not made the matchday squad for any of the club’s fixtures since being named as an unused substitute for their opening weekend win at Brighton.

The 27-year-old is set to be snubbed once again by the Blues boss for their meeting with Crystal Palace on Saturday, and he is therefore looking for an exit before the transfer window slams shut on Monday.

And according to The Athletic, Rudiger’s preferred destination is London rivals Tottenham, with the report claiming his complaint about being racially abused during Chelsea’s 2-0 win there last December will not put him off a move.

Rudiger claimed ‘racism won’ after no evidence was found to support his claim of monkey noises being directed towards him, but the incident itself is reportedly not a factor in deciding his next move.

The north London club had been in talks with Inter Milan for defender Milan Skriniar, but the report adds the Chelsea man is now Jose Mourinho’s main target for that position.

However, Chelsea are reluctant to grant Rudiger such a switch, with relations between the two London rivals having soured during the Roman Abramovich era.

The same outlet claims Chelsea are still furious at being beaten by Spurs to signing Spanish striker Fernando Llorente from Swansea in 2017, a player that then coach Antonio Conte was desperate to sign.

The report adds AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma and Barcelona have all also expressed an interest in the Germany international.

And if he does head out on loan before Monday’s deadline, Chelsea would like the former Stuttgart defender – who has two years left on his deal at Stamford Bridge – to sign an extension first to protect his market value, thought the report adds this is not a strict condition.

Rudiger has fallen behind Fikayo Tomori in the pecking order at Chelsea, despite reports last month the Chelsea youngster was set to head out on loan to Everton.

The Blues have also brought in experienced Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva to try and solve their defensive issues.

Goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was the last player to leave Chelsea for Tottenham, with the Italian making the switch 11 years ago on a free transfer when he was coming towards the end of his career.
