The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy has landed in Australia as she prepares to film the new Mad Max prequel, Furiosa.

The 26-year-old actress, who was born in Miami and raised between London and Argentina, posted a selfie to Instagram with her musician boyfriend Malcolm McRae after arriving Down Under on Thursday.

‘It’s Thursday in Aus so… sending love from the future,’ she wrote in the caption, joking about the time difference between the U.S. and Australia.

Anya sported short red hair with a blunt fringe, prompting fans to remark she was channeling her character Beth Harmon from Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambit.

Anya is shooting Furiosa with the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, with the film slated for a 2024 release.

She will star as a young Imperator Furiosa, the war captain previously played by Charlize Theron in 2015 blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road.

Berejiklian said it would be the ‘largest film ever to be filmed here’, creating 850 jobs and injecting at least $350million into the local economy.

She went on to praise the movie’s cast and crew, and said the production would ‘showcase Australian talent at its best’.

‘Chris, who’s made Australia his home, he’s a global superstar and works here in NSW, and I couldn’t feel prouder about him and his generation of actors that are really continuing to put Australia on the map,’ she said.

Anya is best known for playing the lead role in Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit, as well as the films Emma and The Northman, in which she stars alongside Alexander Skarsgård and Nicole Kidman.
