England’s ongoing World Cup success has inspired fans at home to hope, just maybe, that football’s coming home.

But some of England’s closest neighbours have been less happy with the Three Lions’s semi-final streak.

After neither Scotland or Wales qualified for the tournament, fans in both nations were left with a seemingly straightforward decision: whether or not to support their English counterparts.

Welsh and Scottish fans pledged their support to any team to play England. One naysayer encouraged others to purchase Croatian flags from Amazon in advance of England's match against the team

Many answered that question resoundingly and refused to cheer on Gareth Southgate’s boys as they arrived in Volgograd for the group stages.

And some churlish fans have gone even further, promising to support any team that plays against England.

Sour supporters from both Wales and Scotland have taken to social media to express their support for those nations England has met in the group and knockout stages.

Some Scottish fans were quick to switch their allegiances to Croatia after discovering England would face the team managed by Zlatko Dalić on Wednesday. For others, the sound of England fans singing Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds's anthem Three Lionswas enough to drive them to anger

Tweeting using the hashtag #AnyonebutEngland, the grumbling viewers appeared intent on spoiling England’s fun.

First they cheered on Colombia, then Sweden and now Croatia who will play England on Wednesday at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Some joked they had hedged their bets by purchasing both French and Belgian flags for ‘every eventuality’ while others complained they had ‘had enough’ of England fans’ chants of ‘it’s coming home’.

However, it was not just the Scottish and Welsh willing England to fail.

Irish spoilsports also made their distaste known on social media as they shared pictures of Swedish flags flying in the Republic of Ireland in the lead up to yesterday’s showdown.

Irish unionists were quick to pledge their support to the Swedes, with one account posting picture of a pub called The Rock Off Sales proudly flying the Swedish flag alongside the Irish tricolor.

England fans were quick to hit back against the naysayers, adding #AnyonbutEngland fans had already had to switch their allegiances twice due to them team’s ongoing success.
