Aquatic centre’s cheeky sunscreen awareness slogan

An aquatic centre has divided its online community over its new sunscreen awareness slogan.

The Aquatic and Recreational Centre in Cockburn, Perth released it’s new ‘controversial’ slogan on Facebook on Sunday.

The slogan read: ‘It’s not called COCKBURN for nothing. Apply sunscreen regularly.’

The aquatic centre then posted the slogan asking, ‘What do you think about our new signs out near the 50m? #sunsmart #smileandthink #gettoknowu.’

‘This is not cool, sexual innuendos at a place where kids play? one user commented.

‘Not sure who puts sunscreen on their c*** but i wont be taking my much wanted trip to Arc… Say what you will. I’m entitled to my opinion and there it is,’ he continued.

‘I know it’s supposed to be funny but by emphasising the ‘burn’ it also emphasises the ‘cock’. Surprised it was approved,’ another wrote.

However, others saw the funny side of the slogan and commended the aquatic centre on their sense of humour.

‘Whoever thought of this deserves a pay rise,’ one commented.

Another user posted, ‘I think it’s a brilliant sign everyone is talking about it if it means people start using more sun protection good on you ARC.’

The City of Cockburn governance and community services director Don Green told the Cockburn Gazette, the whole point of the slogan was to get people to be wary of a serious issue.

‘Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia, and sadly we see this habit regularly at the ARC,’ he said.
