Police are hunting a ‘runaway bride’ after finding a strange wedding dress near a playground.

The dress was brought in to a police station in Cairns after it was found in its own storage bag on the Cairns Esplanade on Thursday.

Officers have now launched an appeal to find the owner, titled ‘are you our runaway bride?’

Police senior constable Russ Parker wrote the light-hearted appeal riddled with wedding puns and shared it on the Queensland police website.

He wrote: ‘It’s made from blue satin with pastel flowers, multi-coloured tulle and has a blue satin train.

‘And before you ask – yes, I had to consult one of our very capable administration officers to assist me with that description…

‘Did the bride get cold feet at the last minute and leave the dress behind? Was it stolen from somewhere and discarded?

‘We don’t know what sequins of events led to the dress being discovered.

‘Will the dress’s discovery add to a bodice of evidence supporting a stealing offence?

‘Or will it sadly end up resulting in an applique-tion to dispose of it as unclaimed property?

‘So, if you want to avoid any more of my very ordinary wedding dress puns – we need your help!

‘Have you heard of someone who has lost a wedding dress this week?

‘If so, please have them call the Cairns Police Property Office on 40307207 from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 3.30pm.

‘And I’ll be eternally grateful to you – as long as we both shall live!’
