Argentina flooding sees man avoid certain death by inches

This is the terrifying moment a man narrowly escaped certain death as the ground collapsed beneath him a second after he walked over it.

A second after the man takes a step, a huge chunk of the ground he had just walked across is swept away by the river.

The incredible scene took place as the river Pilcomayo in northern Argentina flooded, reaching a height of seven metres in some places.

The man can be seen walking over a stretch of ground that collapses into the flood waters below just a second later

In the video, the man can be seen calmly walking as a river full of earth rushes next to him.

He rushes away as people around the collapsed area jump away in panic.

20,000 people have been affected by the flood, with at least 7,000 people being evacuated from their homes. One death has been reported so far.

The river has reached a record height of seven metres (23 feet) in the worse affected areas.

The government say that the flooding is the worse in a decade in the region with the heavy rainfall in the area making the situation even worse.

Those evacuated are being housed in school, clubs and tents in allocated areas in the Salta region of Argentina.

In another astonishing video from the flood, a woman was rescued as she was stuck in her car in the middle of the river.

Onlookers rushed to help the woman as the river took her vehicle downstream. In the video, a man is seeing throwing a rope to the woman as the water crashes around her car.

The floods are the worst in the region in a decade, with 20,000 people affected by the flood, with almost 10,000 people being evacuated from their homes

A group of people then tug the rope, dragging the woman through the rushing water and to safety on the river bank.

Cristian Bolado, the Director of Emergency and Disaster Response for the Red Cross in Argentina said: ‘We have taken all the measures to deal with this disaster, prioritising saving the lives of the people in the region.’

He added: ‘But there are still some isolated communities we haven’t had communication with.’
