ARIA Awards 2019: MAFS and Love Island stars takeover prestigious red carpet

Australia’s biggest names in music were joined by global pop stars including Dua Lipa and Halsey for the prestigious ARIA Awards on Wednesday night. 

But as the red carpet at The Star Sydney commenced, many fans were baffled by the unexpected appearance of Married At First Sight and Love Island stars.

Despite having no association with the music industry, the reality TV personalities still managed to steal the spotlight with their wild Instagram posts. 

The cast of Love Island’s second season appeared thrilled to have been invited to the red carpet event, after the raunchy dating show recently wrapped in Fiji.

‘Strutting down the red carpet,’ bragged winner Josh Packham, while sharing a video of himself arriving at the ceremony and proudly doing a ‘shaka’ hand sign.

Josh then puckered up for a kiss with girlfriend Anna McEvoy on the red carpet.  

The newly-famous hunk wore a pair of tailored shorts, which certainly turned heads as other male guests had arrived in traditional suits and pants.

During an intermission, Love Island’s Cartier Surjan filmed herself seductively feeding Matthew Zukowski pieces of sushi inside The Star Sydney. 

‘You bit my finger,’ she hysterically laughed as the male model scoffed the food. 

Similarly, Married At First Sight’s Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli appeared to be appreciative of the food and drink on offer.

During the show, Martha shared a video of herself drinking a glass of champagne as Michael sipped a bottle of beer by her side. 

‘Mum and dad hit the town,’ she joked, before stopping to take a selfie in the toilet wearing her colourful stretch-satin midi dress from designer Ellery. 

The couple appeared more in-demand than many of the musicians in attendance as they arrived on the red carpet and did multiple media interviews.

However, Martha and Michael slipped out of the ceremony early, revealing they were off to find more alcohol and were ‘too lit’ for the awards show. 

‘They were serving free wine… we drank a couple of bottles full and now we’ve got to go and get some more,’ a high-spirited Michael told their driver. 

Meanwhile, the couple’s recently married co-stars Jules Robinson and Cameron Merchant were slammed on social media for attending. 

After The Kyle & Jackie O Show shared a picture of the pair on the carpet to their 257,000 followers, a handful were somewhat unimpressed. 

‘They were serving free wine… we drank a couple of bottles full and now we’ve got to go and get some more,’ Michael told their driver as they left 

‘Yeh time they give it a rest. What do they have in common with [music]?’ wrote one.

‘Why the hell are they there?’ questioned another follower.

‘WTF has being on Married at First Sight got to do with the Arias? Milking their 15 minutes for all it’s worth!!!’ a third fan pondered. 

Another wrote: ‘Loved these two on MAFS but sadly the way they’re milking their 15 mins now is really disappointing. Go have that baby and leave the publicity alone.’ 

It is assumed that Married At First Sight and Love Island stars were invited as guests of Channel Nine, who were broadcasting the event on Wednesday night.
