Shakhtar Donetsk have revealed that they are continuing to hold talks with Arsenal over selling star man Mykhailo Mudryk despite already rejecting an offer from the Gunners.

Mudryk has emerged as one of the rising talents in European football, with Shakhtar themselves rating him behind only Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jnr leading to the 21-year-old being dubbed the ‘Ukrainian Neymar’.

Arsenal are already looking to get a deal completed before the start of the January transfer window yet have already seen a bid of £57million rejected by Shakhtar.

Although many clubs are chasing the Ukraine international winger, the Gunners are thought to be leading the race, especially with Mudryk hinting he would like to move to the Emirates after uploading an image of himself on social media watching Mikel Arteta’s side secure a 3-1 win over West Ham United on Boxing Day.

Despite rejecting Arsenal’s initial approach however, Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin admits he is still open to offers for Mudryk and that talks continue with Arsenal.

‘Negotiations are continuing,’ he told Shakhtar’s website. We receive offers, but they are not the ones we would like to see on our table.

‘Now, literally in five minutes, I will have a phone conversation with Arsenal. We are open to negotiations, ready to exchange ideas and figures. If we will agree, then let it be so. If we will not, then let it be another time.’

Mudryk has quickly emerged as a rising star with Brentford showing early interest last summer. But 10 goals and eight assists since in all competitions has led to his asking price having doubled following the growing attention of many bigger clubs across the continent.

As reported by Sportsmail, Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov will have the final say on any deal.

There is, however, an expectation that an agreement could be reached next month.

Meanwhile, the Gunners continue to try and strengthen their attack as they launch a pursuit of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish club are willing to allow the Portugal international depart on loan, but Chelsea and Manchester United have already baulked at their financial demands of £8m for a six-month temporary switch.

Arteta is keen on the forward though and has urged the board to back him as his Gunners side fight for the title five points clear at the summit of the Premier League.
