  • Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has joined Hertha Berlin on loan

  • Guendouzi joined Arsenal in 208 for £8million but has not featured since March

Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi has completed a season-long loan move to German club Hertha Berlin.

The French midfielder fell out of favour with current Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta and has not featured for the north Londoners since March 14.

He arrived from Lorient in 2018 for £8million but was in trouble with his boss towards the end of last season after it was reported he taunted Brighton players about their wages during a Premier League game.

Guendouzi tweeted his delight at completing his move to the Bundesliga side, saying: ‘Excited to be back on the pitch and defend the colors of @herthabsc! Let’s go!’

The 21-year-old’s last game for Arsenal came on March 14 when the Gunners lost 2-1 to Brighton in their second match after the coronavirus hiatus.

Guendouzi was involved in a post-match altercation with Neal Maupay, with the player grabbing the French striker at his neck at the sound of the full-time whistle.

Arteta immediately dropped the midfielder from the squad, with the Gunners winning the FA Cup in August without the help of Guendouzi.

Lucas Torreira is another Arsenal midfielder who could be leaving the north Londoners on loan before the deadline at 11pm on Monday.

The Uruguayan midfielder is waiting for a move to Atletico Madrid after having a medical in the Spanish capital over the weekend.

This is not expected to be the only deal between Arsenal and the LaLiga club on this deadline day, as Atleti midfielder Thomas Partey could complete a £45million to the Gunners in the coming hours.

Arsenal are prepared to pay the release clause for the Ghanaian midfielder, who has played 132 league games for Diego Simeone’s side.
