Artist Grayson Perry appeals for his missing cat

Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry has issued a desperate appeal to help find his missing cat after it vanished last weekend.

The 57-year-old added Twitter had been ‘torture’ over the past few days because he had seen ‘lovely cats’ everywhere but had no idea where his own pet Kevin was.

He wrote on Twitter: ‘Kevin has been missing now for two and a half days consequently Twitter is torture what with all the lovely cats. We miss him so much.’

It is understood Kevin has inspired some of Perry’s artwork in recent years, with the artist particularly well-known for his ceramic vases.

His psychotherapist wife Philippa Perry has also pleaded for information on his whereabouts on Twitter and revealed Kevin frequently disappears.

She tweeted: ‘Will everyone who has got a obviously healthy well fed cat in their house that isn’t theirs let it out please. Kevin has disappeared…again. I miss him.’

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Mrs Perry said the couple were ‘very sad’, but added Kevin had been missing for even longer before from their central London home, including one time when he became shut in a neighbour’s house for five days while they were on holiday.

She said: ‘It has happened before, so we are hopeful. Either that [has happened again], or he has sneaked in to the back of an Ocado van and has gone a bit further. He has got in one of those before.’

The family said the cat had inspired some of Perry's recent artwork and it appears to feature in this piece from a show in June 2017

Mrs Perry added: ‘Everyone knows us around here so usually people pick him up and bring him back. But this time nothing yet.’

She urged locals to look in cellars, gardens and car boots to see if the cat had become trapped.

The two-year-old black and white animal has distinct markings including a white spot on his left back knee.
