Spanish newspaper AS give NINE ‘pathetic’ Barcelona flops including Lionel Messi ZERO marks out of 10 after shocking Champions League capitulation against Bayern Munich

  • Barcelona’s flops have been lambasted by Spanish press after their humiliation
  • The club had been knocked out of the Champions League after an 8-2 mauling
  • Newspaper AS gave nine players, including Lionel Messi, zero marks out of ten
  • Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba were the only stars to be handed a rating above zero

Nine Barcelona players were awarded zero marks out of 10 by furious Spanish publication AS after the club’s Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich.

The press in Spain are united in their fury due to the manner of Barcelona’s defeat and the players subjected to the mauling in Lisbon have been heavily criticised from all angles.

Lionel Messi, the talisman typically responsible for rescuing the Catalan giants, endured a nightmare evening and was also rocked with the lowest rating of them all.

Barcelona’s shock capitulation means that there will be no LaLiga club in the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in 13 years.

And to little surprise, the Nou Camp stars ran ragged by their opponents were labelled as ‘pathetic’ and ’embarrassing’.

Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba were the only players given marks by AS, with the rest of their team-mates graded zero.

The same publication then witheringly claimed that Barcelona are stuck in a state of ‘painful ridicule’ after their exit.

Sport, another paper based in Catalonia, also pulled no punches. In what was rightly labelled a ‘nightmare evening’, Quique Setien oversaw his final Barcelona game in charge before his looming dismissal.

The 61-year-old’s performance was simply labelled ‘sacked’, with his reign expected to be brought to an end after just six months this weekend.

Barcelona’s squad were subjected to jeers from irate supporters as they returned to their hotel following the rout.

AS reported that some had screamed ‘scoundrels’ as their fallen heroes left the team coach.

And in the wake of the club’s heaviest Champions League defeat in history, it has already been suggested that Setien has been axed.

Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to replace him, with the former Tottenham boss topping the shortlist after having dinner with Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu earlier this week.
