An Asian doctor who moved to Australia says she was called a prostitute and denied accommodation just weeks after arriving in the country.

Dr Alice Han is a renowned medical practitioner, who has worked as a gynecologist and obstetrician after graduating from Harvard University in the United States.

She moved to Australia in May from Canada, and claims she has been the victim of racial profiling while Down Under.

The first alleged incident came in Grafton in New South Wales, where after suffering a flat tyre in her car, she was unable to make it to Coffs Harbour where she had planned to stay.

She was taken by a tow truck to a motel, and the owner was allegedly angry that Dr Han had arrived after closing time.

‘He asked me ”are you a working girl? Is that how you can afford the room?”’ Dr Han told 10 Daily.

She was kicked out of the motel and later reported the incident to police.

The next day, Dr Han was leaving Grafton and catching a train to Coffs Harbour when she had a similar alleged encounter with a man.

‘I was a little disoriented and a man, again Caucasian, offered to help me with directions and before leaving he said to me ”are you a going to be a working girl in Coffs Harbour?”’

‘I want people to take something positive away from this,’ she said.

‘While it was all very upsetting for me, I want people to consider the impact their implicit bias can have on people.’
