From pants with rips along the bum to jeans with a zipper along the crack, the fashion world has become completely obsessed with booty-baring jeans in recent month.
But the latest crack at figure-flattering, and derriere-revealing, pants is particularly odd, revamping the once hated plumber’s butt crack look into chic mom jeans.
ASOS has just released a pair of black belted high-waisted jeans that feature a cut out with a thin panel that hangs just over the butt crack. The look takes the formerly trashy plumber’s butt look into a fashionable, almost Western denim piece that leaves little to the imagination.
Surprise! ASOS sells a pair of ‘open back’ plumber butt jeans with a cut-out right over the bum
Suns out, buns out! The high-waisted mom jeans are a clever reinvention and retail for $60
The bizarre pants are sold for $60 and are labeled as ‘open back’ featuring a half-moon cut out when in reality, the jeans threaten to expose a much more full moon.
Similar styles have come out in higher style brands such as Y Project and are being tested out by fashion bloggers such as We Wore What on Instagram.
Other popular risqué denim looks feature jeans that replace side pockets with skin-baring cut outs, mesh or clear paneling along the knees and pockets linings, and super distressed denim with slashes along the bum, donned by the likes of Kylie Jenner.
In April social media went crazy for a pair of jeans with a zipper along the butt crack by the French company Vetements for a collaboration with Levis. The denim pair also features zippers going down the back of each leg.
Barely there! Similar cut-out and skin-baring denim styles have been swirling the fashion world, styled by the likes of fashion blogger We Wore What on Instagram
Daring denim: Cut outs replace conventional pockets or in ASOS’s case, the lower back space
All exposed: Last April French brand Vetements launched these zipper butt crack jeans in collaboration with Levis that sparked hilarious Instagram commentary
Ripping apart: A popular booty-exposing look is the distressed denim trend, modeled by celebrities like Kylie Jenner (left) on her Instagram as risqué day wear
The internet uproar for the crack zipper jeans was half dominated by fashion gurus demanding a release date and the other half cracking jokes at the unique piece.
‘They are the kind of pants you buy when you wanna feel that breeze,’ one user wrote.
‘Butt cleavage!’ another joked.
Some simply didn’t understand and said, ‘one question: why?’
But there were also a few who saw the bright side.
‘Imagine not having to pull your pants down to s*** though,’ an Instagram user added.
ASOS’s version may not have a zipper but it has a very thin line that gets dangerously close to the derriere. The dark look comes at a perfect time offering an outfit that exposes a sneak of skin for the coming autumn season.
