Aston Villa fan posts picture of meat pie on Twitter

A football fan was disgusted after he was served a ‘puke inducing’ pie with solid green filling while watching a local derby clash.

Gavin Richardson shelled out £3.10 for the rotten pastry as he watched his team Aston Villa lose 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium, on Saturday.

Mr Richardson sent a picture of the putrid pie to a friend who shared it on Twitter, with the post garnering more than 1,000 retweets from revolted supporters.

The snack contained a large green lump, which filled most of the pastry casing.

Tweeters were baffled by the filling, with some arguing that it could be caused by mushy peas from a tin, that have retained their shape.

Further replies suggest it had not been properly defrosted, with the pie then not fully cooked in the middle.

Twitter account Non League Crowds replied: ‘That Wolves pie has got to be a puke-inducing health hazard hasn’t it? Nothing more, nothing less.’

John McCoy said: ‘Must have been a PUKa pie.’

Daniel Grant said: ‘This has me reduced to tears.’

Roderick Cooper added: ‘Aaauuughhh! Disgusting. And I’ve eaten – with relish – dodgy pies the length and breadth of the land over past decades of away specials.’

Some Wolves fans suggested Mr Richardson was just trying to get back at their club after Villa’s defeat.

Phil Hough said: ‘I think that’s a big lump of sour grapes.’

A user named Wolves Fan said: ‘It’s not a Villa fan who is green with envy is it’, while Matt Ball added: ‘I think you need to worry about the state of your midfield rather than our pies.’

The pie has been the snack of choice for famished football fans for more than a century.

The legendary chant ‘Who ate all the pies?’ is said to have been first sung in 1894 by Sheffield United supporters, and directed at the club’s goalkeeper William ‘Fatty’ Foulke, who weighed 22 stone.

Recent research showed that Chelsea has the most expensive pies in the English Premier League, coming in at a whopping £4.80. Burnley had the cheapest at £3.

While Walsall FC, who play in EFL League One, are regarded to have the best pies in English football.

No-one was available to comment from Wolves.
