Aston Villa set to tie down the future of Kortney Hause with a new contract

EXCLUSIVE: Aston Villa set to fend off interest from other Premier League clubs by signing Kortney Hause to a new contract with the defender in the final months of his current deal

  • Kortney Hause is set to extend his stay at Aston Villa by signing a new contract
  • The centre-back’s current deal was set to expire at the end of the campaign
  • Hause had been the subject of interest from other Premier League teams
  • Steven Gerrard is hoping to bring in another centre-back in the January window

Kortney Hause is poised to sign a new contract with Aston Villa as boss Steven Gerrard moves to shore up his defensive options.

The centre-back’s current deal was due to run out at the end of the campaign and earlier this month he had been attracting interest from other Premier League clubs.

Hause stepped in for the second half of Villa’s clash with Manchester United last weekend following an injury to Ezri Konsa, and helped Villa fight back to claim a 2-2 draw from 2-0 down with less than 15 minutes remaining.

The 26-year-old joined Villa from Wolves on an initial loan deal in January 2019, before making the switch permanent the following summer after they were promoted to the Premier League.

Though he has not been a first-team regular, Hause has provided frequent back-up for Konsa and Tyrone Mings and scored the only goal when Villa won 1-0 at Manchester United last September – their first victory at Old Trafford for 12 years.

Gerrard said last week that he prefers to have four centre-backs in his squad and having lost Axel Tuanzebe, who returned to United before joining Napoli on loan, the former England captain is keen to add another central defender this month.

Villa have already made waves in the transfer market this month, with Philippe Coutinho arriving on loan from Barcelona to link up again with former Liverpool team-mate Gerrard, and Lucas Digne signing for £25m from Everton.

Gerrard would also like to add a central midfielder to his ranks before the window closes.

Since Gerrard replaced Dean Smith in November, Villa have won four and drawn one of their eight league games, though they have not had a victory since they beat Norwich 2-0 on December 14.
