ARIES (MARCH 21 – APRIL 19): ADVENTUROUS AND ENERGETIC

Nicolas, who has paired up with with Australian online restaurant reservation platform, OpenTable, to match customers with their perfect restaurants, says those with an Aries star sign love risk when it comes to their dining choices.

‘Being the first sign of the zodiac, they are born risk takers that love to try new foods and cuisines from faraway places that can appeal to their senses,’ Nicolas said.

‘Aries is ruled by fire and iron and are drawn to spicy food cooked with lots of ginger and chillies. Grilled and barbecued red meat rich in iron and protein are also firm favourites.

‘Due to their impatient nature, they expect service to be quick and are never too shy to voice their demands. Quick bites and on-the-go takeaway meals appeal to their fast moving lifestyles. ‘

Perfect restaurant:  A ‘smokehouse’ experience at San Antone by Bludso’s BBQ at the Crown, Melbourne.

TAURUS (APRIL 20 – MAY 20): EXPENSIVE AND LUXURIOUS

Taureans, Nicolas says, are all about expensive restaurants and luxurious settings.

‘Whatever they eat, the food must spark all their senses and they always put quality ahead of cost. Good food is the key to pleasing this zodiac bull,’ he said.

‘A French restaurant with fine cuisine appeals to them, ideally complimented by a great wine list. They adore decadence and prefer meals featuring rich sauces and are lovers of dessert – anything chocolate will do!

‘They seek a relaxed and comfortable dining atmosphere.’

GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUNE 20): ALWAYS UP FOR SHARING AND FUN

‘Geminis like restaurants that won’t bore or fill them with heavy foods,’ Nicolas said.

‘Geminis are known for their flightiness, so sharing food is ideal – anything from tapas to tacos or a Mediterranean platter where they can try as many new things as possible.

‘Geminis want variety in what they eat and aren’t fans of heavy sauces or overwrought preparations: keep it simple and light.

‘Good conversation is more important to them than food, so restaurants with live music or a dance floor will always take their fancy where their inner social butterfly can flourish.’

Perfect restaurant: For a memorable tapas experience head to BORN by Tapavino, a favourite of Sydney; where share plates and Spanish wines are the norm.

CANCER (JUNE 21 – JULY 22): HOMEY SETTINGS

According to Nicolas, cancerians ‘like restaurants that remind them of home and past memories’.

‘They love home cooked food, especially those prepared by their grandmother or any nostalgic family favourites,’ he said.

‘People born under this sign enjoy their food, liking big portions and rarely turning down dessert. They make great company at the table with their knowledge of recipes and the origin of food.

‘They adore restaurants with a rustic feel so avoid anything too sleek or modern. Think independent family run restaurants or any setting that takes you back in time.’

For Leos, ‘food is a statement that reflects their status so only the best will do’.

‘Being figure-conscious, they prefer grilled meats and fresh vegetables with the added drama of chilli, spice and ornate edible decorations,’ Nicolas said.

‘This picky sign is very particular about what they like and are aware of what it takes to eat healthy,’ Nicolas said.

‘They stick to simple and hearty eats that are clean cut, being big fans of vegetarian options, sushi and gluten free dishes.

‘If you’re looking to shed the pounds, eating with Virgos will give you inspiration. A restaurant that looks after your wellbeing is essential – think anywhere that is inspired by macrobiotic, raw or Ayurvedic ways of eating.’

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 – OCTOBER 22): BEAUTIFUL AND ROMANTIC

Nicolas said what Librans like more than food itself is ‘the whole drama around it’.

‘Every meal is a feast and even if they don’t eat much, they prefer small portions of everything – salad, appetiser, main course and dessert,’ he said.

‘With a real sweet tooth they can replace a main dish to indulge in artisan desserts. A restaurant must be immaculately clean with stunning surroundings and table settings. They like double-dating and love tasting food from dining partners’ plates.’

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 – NOVEMBER 21): PRIVACY IS KEY

Scorpios ‘have an all or nothing attitude to food based on their emotions’.

‘On some days they eat to their hearts content whilst other days, not so much,’ Nicolas said.

‘Simple favourites include red meat with red wine whilst their love of mystery adores trying new flavours, so an Indian or African eatery would take their fancy. They love aphrodisiacs so think oysters or truffles.

‘A restaurant must offer an intimate private experience with a table away from the crowds. A dimly lit boudoir inspired setting or even a private dining room experience is ideal.’

These people ‘want to feel like they are on holiday when it comes to their food’.

‘Think Indian, Chinese or Brazilian cuisines. They love big bold flavours and spices, and are willing to take risks with food as they love trying new delicacies and food types,’ Nicolas said.

‘Over eating and drinking is their only issue. They want a restaurant to be a relaxed and sociable setting where they are not afraid to use their hands to eat. Food festivals can bring out their inner foodie.’

‘They prefer quality over quantity, with poached meats, roasted earth vegetables and stews being firm favourites.

‘Often eating whilst working, a wrap sandwich, burrito or bento box pair well with their desk-driven lifestyle. A restaurant should be understated yet scream social prominence located in a five star hotel or upscale country club with architectural charm.’

AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 – FEBRUARY 18): LIKE CUTTING EDGE SPOTS

‘They are open to all kinds of food, especially those that are a bit unusual and quirky,’ Nicolas said.

‘Expect them to be eating unheard food fads that will in years to come become a mainstream trend. Molecular gastronomy appeals. Being humanitarian in nature, vegetarian and vegan choices strongly appeal.

‘A restaurant should be sleek and modern, even better if technology can be used to order food. They are also open to unconventional settings – think food trucks and pop ups.’

According to Nicolas, Pisces like restaurants that allow them to dream.

‘They love feel-good comfort food; this can include pasta in a rich sauce, to creamy lasagna or a cookie-inspired dessert. Being a water sign, seafood is a firm favourite with a particular love for oysters and fish,’ he said.

‘A meal should be romantic, allowing them to connect with others in a peaceful setting. A restaurant by water is soothing to the soul or eating whilst floating on a boat.

‘Candlelight is essential to any meal.’
