Aussie men show off their ordinary rigs on Instagram

Australia’s search for the most ordinary rig is in full swing with contestants sharing their photos on social media.

In its first official year, popular Sydney-based swimwear label Budgy Smuggler has asked entrants to share hilarious photos of themselves in the swimwear.

The competition, called ‘Australia’s Most Ordinary Rig’, aims to celebrate all manner of average ‘dad bods’.

The competition was born in 2016 when Aussie man Dan Leydon was drunk one night at the Mount Isa Rodeo.

After knocking back a few beers he stripped of his clothes to LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” and was left standing in his budgy smugglers in front of the crowd.

The story attracted media attention which brought it to the attention of the Budgy Smuggler label themselves.

It was in an Instagram post earlier this year the Budgy Smuggler team launched the search.

‘It’s time to get nominating. We are on the search for the man with Australia’s most ordinary rig,’ the post read.

‘Let’s face it, ordinary is the new extraordinary and a six-pack is more useful when it’s under your arm than popping up on everyone’s social media.

‘This bloke we are searching for is exceptional in his ordinariness. This bloke is so ordinary he is extra ordinary.’

The post went on to say that entrants should carry their right ‘with a good sense of humour and embraces the body he is in’.

They even went as far as to dub the competition for people with ‘dad bods without needing to have kids’.

The website stated: ‘While this event seems like a complete piss take, we are aiming to send the message that it’s ok [sic] not to be a completely shredded Instagram blogger.’
