A savvy teenager has come up with a genius business idea that’s helping him make $40 per hour.

Ben Adler, 13, from Brighton, in Melbourne, launched a business where he paints house numbers on the kerb.

He charges $20 for each paint job and manages as many as two jobs every hour.

Ben said the numbers painted on the kerbside help emergency services, food delivery drivers and anyone trying to find a house at night.

‘I’ve always wanted to have my own business because my parents both do and a lot of my family members do,’ Ben told 7NEWS.

‘Doing this at a young age means I’ll be able to save money for university and a car.’

Customer and Glen Eira mayor Jim Magee said the teen had done an incredible job and was ‘a pleasure to do business with’.

‘He turned up on time, polite courteous, absolute perfectionist in his work. A pleasure to do business with,’ Magee said.

Ben stumbled across the idea while he was looking for work during the school holidays.

His job applications were rejected, prompting him to look for alternative ways of making money.

He now works up to 20 hours every weekend and travels between jobs on his bike, sometimes riding as much as 50 kilometres over two days.

The practical-minded teenager said he is saving the money from his business to invest in his future.

He hopes to one day buy a car and use his savings to pay for his degree when he eventually enrols in university.
