And another person added: ‘I’ve been making an idiot of myself.’

However, others couldn’t accept the correct pronunciation, with one woman asking Bruno: ‘Why are you destroying a nation’s hope and dreams with information like this?’

And another added: ‘Believe it or not you are incorrect, this has been around since I was a child (in the olden days) so I know more than you on this one.’

But Bruno quickly pointed out the correct pronunciation was printed on the old ad.

Passiona, described as ‘pure juice of luscious passion fruit (without the seeds)’, was developed in 1924 by Spencer Cottee, a dairy farmer from Lismore New South Wales.

He created the drink using the overabundance of passion fruits that were grown on his farm after he teamed up with a bottle company to carbonate the syrup.

Lady de Chair, wife of the then-New South Wales governor, was a huge fan of the drink, she said Passiona is ‘quite the best basis for fruit cup, and soft drinks, generally, that I have ever bought’.

‘Passiona is pure juice of specially selected passion fruit, and has been proved one of the most healthful drinks available,’ she was quoted saying in the 1927 ad.

‘It is a thorough thirst-quencher,and leaves the throat and mouth with that clean, satisfied feeling, which one finds lacking in most other drinks of its kind.

‘The flavour is fresh with the pungency of pure passion fruit.. You’ll say you have never tasted anything so pleasing in your life.’

Passiona is now manufactured by Schweppes Australia.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Schweppes for comment.
