A customer was astounded when they noticed a bizarre surcharge on a cafe’s brunch menu.

The foodie shared am image of the menu from an Adelaide café that charges an extra $2 for each serve of scrambled egg on the ‘Whole Hog’ breakfast that already costs $27.90.

In a Reddit thread, the fee had Aussies up in arms but not everyone protested saying scrambling eggs requires ‘extra ingredients and labour’.

A customer was shocked to see a bizarre surcharge on an Adelaide cafe’s brunch menu. The eatery charges customers an extra $2 if they want their eggs scrambled

‘Why am I being charged $2 to have my eggs scrambled as opposed to other methods?’ the café patron wrote.

The $27.90 whole hog breakfast comes with bacon, chorizo, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, hash potatoes, baked beans and toasted Turkish bread and the customer’s choice of egg.

However, two eggs poached or fried comes at no extra cost while an additional $2 will be added to the bill for each serve scrambled.

The post angered many with one user calling the charge an ‘absolute joke’.

‘What the hell, it’s already extremely expensive as it is for a big brekkie wtf,’ another agreed.

‘Restaurants are getting more expensive it seems,’ said a third

Not everyone was opposed to the fee saying scrambling eggs requires extra ingredients, more work and can ‘slow down the line’.

‘Extra labour and the place I work at does this. For poached eggs, they can keep a pot of water hot and boiling. For fried and scrambled eggs, they have to wash the pan every time,’ one cook explained.

‘The $2 surcharge is probably more of a deterrent to make things easier for the kitchen than to actually pay for the kitchen’s extra labour,’ another argued.

‘It’s fairly common on a lot of breakfast menus in Adelaide. A lot of places don’t even offer scrambled eggs because it slows down the line,’ they added.

But some still weren’t having it with one pointing out: ‘$27.90 should be able to accommodate a bit of a ‘slow down of the line’.’

A hospitality worker said: ‘I’ve been a chef for 25 years and call bulls***, extra labour – that’s what chefs are paid to do.’
