Australia lockdown: Joe Rogan ‘doesn’t know s**t’ about Covid-19, says Kyle Sandilands

Kyle Sandilands has blasted the world’s most popular podcaster Joe Rogan for criticising Australia’s ‘crazy’ lockdowns.

The Australian radio personality, 50, slammed Rogan while stressing the dangers of the highly contagious Delta variant of Covid-19.

‘Look, Joe, you’re wrong in this case because the Delta variant is killing people,’ he said on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Tuesday.

‘And you think it’s a joke because we haven’t lost 100,000?’ he continued.

‘The new strain does kill people, so standing outside in the sun like a gym junkie, thinking that sun and fitness is gonna save you is not the answer.’

‘Fit people have died within a week of getting this,’ added Kyle, who admitted he doesn’t listen to Rogan’s podcast.

He then said he had nothing personal against Rogan, 53, but simply disagreed with his views on the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Joe is great, don’t get me wrong. I’m not s**t-canning the bloke, but he’s not a doctor, he’s a commentator,’ Kyle said.

‘He doesn’t know s**t. At the end of the day he’s got an opinion but he doesn’t know.’

Kyle’s co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and newsreader Brooklyn Ross seemed more understanding of the U.S. comedian’s views and explained that he was looking at the situation from an American perspective.

‘600,000 people have died of Covid in the U.S. so you would look at Australia and go, “Why are you shutting down? You don’t have a problem!”,’ Brooklyn said.

‘That’s what I mean,’ Jackie added. ‘So he’s seeing it from his point of view where there’s been so many.’

'He doesn't know shit,' he continued. 'At the end of the day he's got an opinion but he doesn't know'

Jackie then said that New Zealand looks ‘overly cautious’ compared to Australia, while Australia looks overly cautious compared to America.

‘That’s why people are confused,’ she added.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian put harsher restrictions on nine western Sydney local councils, the epicentre of the outbreak, over the past few weeks.

Heavy-handed enforcement of the lockdown included military on the streets to back up cops and police helicopters barking warnings while hovering over backyards.

UFC commentator and comedian Rogan recently unloaded on Australia for going into lockdown after limited deaths in the recent outbreak.

‘There’s some crazy s**t going on right now with the army trying to keep people inside in Australia,’ Rogan said.

‘One of the things that I read was that as they’re doing this, only nine people have died from Covid.’

The death of a woman in her 90s in Sydney over the weekend brought the total killed by Covid to 29 since the Sydney outbreak began in Bondi on June 16.

By contrast, case numbers are spiking in the US with almost as many deaths there on Friday as Australia suffered since the pandemic began.

The US recorded 849 deaths on Friday alone, compared with 941 overall for the past 18 months in Australia.

America also had 150,000-plus new cases that day while Australia had just 36,330 in total since last February.

Australian Defence Force personnel have at various times during the pandemic been called in by some states to help police enforce lockdown restrictions.

A police helicopter was also used to order beachgoers off the sand at Gordon’s Bay in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and also in the city’s west.

At question time in parliament on Monday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison claimed the measures taken by Australia saved more than 30,000 lives.

‘That puts Australia in a league of very few countries in the world this year,’ he said.

But Joe Rogan insisted Australia’s reaction was over the top.

‘They have full on government lockdowns, where the government is flying helicopters over streets saying, ‘Go back indoors, you’re not allowed to be outside, which is crazy,’ he said.

‘This disease doesn’t even transmit well outside. It doesn’t make any sense. Being outside and getting vitamin D from the sun is probably one of the best things you can do.

‘You have zero deaths from October 20 to July 11, then you get one death there and you have a little spike which is only one or two deaths. That’s crazy.

‘I think it’s nine deaths total since September and they have a full on government lockdown where the military is locking down the street.’

Mr Rogan does not make a link between Australia’s limited deaths and case numbers and the lockdown measures taken in Australia.
