Socceroos hero’s wife ‘rips’ their one-year-old daughter out of bed after ‘unbelievable’ win and reveals the story behind THAT celebration – as the world reacts to thrilling shootout
The wife of the hero goalkeeper who secured the Socceroos a fifth consecutive World Cup has led wild celebrations back home.
The Socceroos are through to the final 32 once again after substitute goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne saved two of Peru’s shots in a dramatic penalty shoot-out, sparking euphoric scenes across the Australia.
Redmayne’s biggest fan, wife Caitlin got up at 4am to watch the big match back home in Sydney with their one-year-old daughter Poppy.
Footage has surfaced of Caitlin jumping up and down and screaming in delight with Poppy in her arms moments after her husband clinched the Socceroos’ berth in the World Cup in November.
‘Poppy, look at Daddy,’ she squealed.
Caitlin had calmed down but was still emotional by the time by the time she got to work 90 minutes later and had by then got the chance to speak to Australia’s new hero on the team bus.

‘I’m still trembling, very exciting,’ Caitlin told the Today show on Tuesday morning,
‘I literally ripped our one-year-old out of the bed, she had no idea what was going on on,
‘I was screaming, she looked at the TV and said Dadda in her little voice.
She revealed her husband’s crazy arm movements anticipating each penalty kick and wild facial reaction after he pulled off the match-winning save was a tribute to his little girl.
The Sydney FC goalkeeper’s antics have instantly earned him the nickname ‘the Grey Wiggle’.
‘That face he pulls always lights up her face,’ Caitlin explained.
‘That face he pulled it wasn’t just for anything, it was for her.’
She’s disappointed her husband will be unlikely getting rid of his beloved beard anytime soon.
‘The beard is going to stay unfortunately. I keep saying it’s got to go. But you know how superstitious footballers are, she said.

Caitlin said it was hard not being there in the stands but intends to book her annual leave so they can be at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
‘I’m on the verge of tears again. We’re so proud of him,’ she said.
‘He’s been away from home for a lot of this year. I’m a little bit speechless. I’m so so proud of him and all of the boys.
‘This is massive, massive for Australian football.’

‘World Cup here we come,’ Prime Minister Anthony Albanese tweeted.
Socceroos coach Graham Arnold led calls for Mr Albanese to declare a national holiday back home in Australia.
Journalists and figures across all sporting codes were unable to contain their excitement.
‘We’re going. WE’RE GOING. Never the easy way.. What an an unbelievable journey. So much love for this team,’ Seven New sports reporter Mel McLaughlin tweeted.
Former cricketer turned commentator Trent Copeland tweeted: ‘This is just epic.’
