  •  A 17-year-old is accused of stealing two watched from a Balinese airport store
  •  The teenager from the Gold Coast was arrested just prior to his flight
  •  He was bound for Brisbane when he was arrested by Indonesian police

An Australian teenager accused of stealing two watches from a duty free store in a Bali airport has been arrested.

The 17-year-old from the Gold Coast is being held in a room at an Indonesian police station.

He is accused of stealing two watches valued from $950 to $1,200.

The teen was arrested at 2pm, just minutes before he was set to board a Jetstar flight from Bali to Brisbane, according to the Courier Mail.

Due to Indonesian child protection laws, the teenager is not being held in a jail cell.

He was reportedly with his step-brother when he was arrested at one of the international airports. The airport is yet to be confirmed.

His parents have stayed behind and rescheduled their trip back to Australia. A lawyer is assisting the teen, who is believed to be with his father.

Lawyer Putu Angga Pratama Sukma said the teenager was ‘crying’ and ‘promised not to do the same thing again’.

‘In Indonesia, a case with a child as a perpetrator, the case is attempted to finish without court,’ he said.

‘We call it diversion. It’s kind of like mediation. Police will encourage the victim to revoke the report and forgive the perpetrator.’

The boy is being held at the Denpasar police station, where fellow Queenslander Brendon Johnsson is facing drug dealing charges.

Last week, the 43-year-old was arrested in his Kuta home after police found 12 grams of cocaine worth about $3,000 in a raid.

If found guilty, Mr Johnsson faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison under Indonesian law.
