This is the heart-warming moment an Australian Commonwealth Games competitor  was surprised with a beautiful court side proposal.

Just moments after the Opals won the gold in the women’s basketball Nicole Seekamp’s boyfriend dropped to a knee, asking for the athlete’s hand in marriage.

Her boyfriend Cody, from the U.S., was ready on the court’s sideline and sprung a proposal on the shocked Adelaide Lightning MVP.

The 25-year-old looked overjoyed as she embraced her partner before her team mates rallied around the loved-up couple in support.

‘I was not expecting that so I guess thanks to Cody for stealing the limelight from everyone else,’ Seekamp told Channel 7 afterwards.

Cody told the Commonwealth Games presenters he had been granted special access to jump down onto the ‘field of play’ once the game was wrapped.

He said the organising wasn’t too easy, but once he had the idea as well as permission from match officials and the team’s coaches the plan was in motion.

Seekamp admitted she had a little idea that something was happening in the background, but didn’t have any clue of the details.

‘I had no idea what exactly was happening or when it was happening, he did a very good job so I was shocked, I cried and I don’t really cry that often, so that must have been a good sign,’ she said.

The talented athlete explained the pair had been together for two-and-a-half years after meeting at the University of South Dakota where Seekamp played basketball.

Seekamp recently was confirmed at the Our Lady of Victories Church in Glenelg parish on February 25 after pledging herself to Catholicism, which Cody also follows.
