The magistrate did not record a conviction after taking into account his need to travel overseas as part of his profession.

Defence Lawyer Michael Gatenby told the court his client did not know his licence had been disqualified.

Mundine directed his mail to his sister’s house because of his busy travelling schedule and did not receive a letter to say he had lost his licence due to an accumulation of demerit points, the court heard.

‘He said he just didn’t receive the notice in the mail. He has maintained that position throughout,’ Mr Gatenby said.

Meanwhile, speaking ahead of his fight against Tommy Brown on Wednesday, Mundine said he was in the best shape in more than a decade.

Despite his confidence, he said he would retire from professional boxing this year if he lost to Brown.
