Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech has labelled Saturday night’s fight between aging stars Anthony Mundine and John Wayne Parr as ’embarrassing’.

Mundine, 44, is coming out of retirement after a year out of the ring while his 43-year-old ten-time kickboxing world champion opponent has not had a boxing bout since 2003.

Weighing in on their clash at Brisbane Convention Centre, Fenech urged Mundine to hang up his gloves once and for all.

‘It’s just two old guys,’ he told Sporting News.

‘Anthony’s days are well and truly behind him, and to be honest, I think it’s embarrassing to the sport of boxing.

Parr’s last fight 16 years ago saw him defeated by Cameroonian-Australian boxer Sakio Bika.

Mundine, meanwhile, was knocked out in 96 seconds by ex-WBO welterweight title holder Jeff Horn exactly a year before Saturday’s fight in the Queensland capital.

The comments by Fenech, 55, a former triple world champion, come after he was rushed to intensive care in Bangkok on October 4 after he began coughing up blood at a training camp.

He underwent life-saving open heart surgery and was pictured triumphantly raising his arms by friends visiting him in hospital eleven days later.

He had been set to miss his daughter Jessica’s wedding as he recovered from the five-hour operation on an infected heart valve.

But he completed a miracle later that month when he made it back to Sydney in time to walk his daughter down the aisle.
