Australian celebrities vote yes in postal plebiscite

A-listers encouraged the public to enrol to vote or update their details to have their say in the same-sex marriage plebiscite.

And as the public begins to receive their marriage equality postal survey slips, celebrities have begun throwing their star power behind the Vote Yes Campaign.

From Hollywood megastars to global hit-makers, supermodels, reality stars and TV hosts: here are the A-listers ticking ‘yes’ in the postal plebiscite on same-sex marriage laws.

The Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey should have arrived in resident’s mail by September 25, with the deadline for sending the forms back on October 27.

Model Jesinta Franklin, wife to AFL star Buddy Franklin, has been an avid supporter of marriage equality over the years and on Thursday she proudly posed with her filled out postal survey.

Holding the envelope up while she sat in the car, the -year-old wrote: ‘Equality for the win ❤️ Just posted our votes off. Our generation is the most likely to forget to vote yet we have the power to make the biggest impact. 

‘Don’t be complacent, this simple act means so much to so many people and is your chance to make a difference.’

Earlier this week, supermodel Megan Gale also showed her support by holding her votes and writing on Instagram: ‘Popped the votes in the mail today.’

However, she later was disappointed by her 383k fans, edited the caption to read: ‘I’ve decided to turn the commenting off this post as it saddens me to see the negative remarks about something that should be viewed as a massive positive. 

‘Thankfully, the majority of you have been super sweet.’

The Australian swimmer can be seen saying ‘lets get it done’ as he posts a letter in a mailbox of a suburban town. 

Convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby also exercised her right to vote, taking to Instagram Stories with a short clip of her trip to the post box.

In the short upload on Thursday, she proudly stated: ‘I vote yes!’ 

On Tuesday, Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth also lent his star power to support the Vote Yes Campaign for same sex marriage in Australia. 

Liam, who is in a relationship with pop star Miley Cyrus, said: ‘I believe it’s a HUMAN RIGHT to be able to marry the person you love regardless of gender.’

‘To all the Australians that care about equality and human rights please say YES to same sex marriage. Let’s not be silly about this. Vote YES for same sex marriage in Australia.’

Singing sister duo Lisa and Jessica Origliasso, of The Veronicas, also have actively campaigned for a yes vote.

Jess, who is in a same-sex relationship with Hollywood star Ruby Rose, wrote: ‘We won’t stop until we live in an all inclusive Australia for everyone.’ 

Actress Margot Robbie also urged her fans to make their vote count in the plebiscite, posting a photo in heart-shaped sunglasses on Instagram.

She simply wrote: ‘LOVE IS LOVE.’

The Kath and Kim star cried on television last month as she urged people to vote yes in the postal survey.

She had tearfully recounted how a lesbian friend was separated from her dying partner in another passionate plea for same-sex marriage.

Meanwhile former Bachelor Matty J and Bachelorette Georgia Love have thrown their support behind the campaign for marriage equality.

‘Not every Australian will get the chance to date 22 people on national TV but they should all have the opportunity to marry the person they love and be treated equally under the law,’ he said, also using the hashtag ‘voteyes’.

Georgia, who turned down Matty J for Lee Elliott in her finale, wrote: ‘Because every bachelor and bachelorette deserves their own finale. Please, please vote yes.’
