Australian chef cries as he is sentenced to more than five years in prison for trafficking ice

A chef caught dealing methamphetamine burst into tears in court on Friday after being sentenced to jail.

Damien Tosh, 34, faced the Townsville Supreme Court in Queensland for dealing ice after slipping into the world of drugs following a ‘difficult’ time with his business.

The court heard he operated a commercial ice trafficking business for at least four months in 2017, according to the Townsville Bulletin.

Crown prosecutor Melanie Franklin told the court Mr Tosh was caught by police with the dangerous drug, utensils and cash. 

Text messages on his phone revealed he had been dealing drugs and employed a debt collector.

‘(Mr Tosh) had at least 36 customers. He had a code that he used, special offers and a quality control to his business,’ Ms Franklin told court.

He was charged with trafficking and arrested a second time with ice in his possession, packaged for sale.

The former head chef and co-owner’s barrister told the court Mr Tosh slipped into the world of drugs when his business venture closed.  

‘As things were getting difficult he was introduced to methamphetamine by friends,’ he said.  

Mr Tosh was reportedly distraught when his sentence was handed down.

He fought back tears as he was sentenced to five and a half years in prison and will not be eligible for release until February 1, 2020
