An Aussie mum transformed a plain wooden cubby house into a Bunnings inspired play house for her son’s third birthday – complete with a tool shed and even a sausage sizzle window.
Her young son is ‘obsessed’ with the hardware chain and the mum did everything she could to make a realistic replica.
The mum’s friends were impressed with her commitment to the task, commending her for getting the Bunnings colour scheme and signs to look so realistic.
An Aussie mum has been praised for her the Bunnings cubby (pictured) she made for her three-year-old son’s birthday
Before and after: The mum transformed a plain wooden cubby house (left) into a Bunnings-inspired play house (right) because her young son is ‘obsessed’ with the hardware chain
‘Thought I would share my Bunnings obsessed son’s recent third birthday present,’ the mum said when she uploaded her creation to popular Facebook group Bunnings mums Australia.
‘I can’t take credit for the idea, I saw a mum do something similar in this group a couple of years ago.’
She explained that she got the cubby house from a cubby builder on Facebook marketplace, then cut out windows and made the door from scratch.
The project isn’t finished yet though as the mum plans to add a swinging window to the front sausage sizzle pass-through and a skylight.
The Bunnings cubby is kitted out with child sized tools, and it even has its own sausage sizzle window
To replicate the traditional Bunnings colours, the mum used Dulux weathershield Little Mermaid, Symphony Red, and Vivid White.
She advised adding Dulux one step prep, primer and undercoat treatment first.
The mum made the chalkboard sign using Dulux black chalkboard paint.
She bought black foam mats from Kmart to make a soft floor.
The mum tried hard to find the exact Bunnings colours to paint the cubby and make it look more realistic
Fellow DIY-ers were very impressed with the mums project.
‘Excellent work,’ one woman said.
‘Wow. That’s brilliant,’ another commented.
‘All he needs now is an apron! Very clever,’ a mum said.
‘I want it for myself,’ one woman joked.
There is more than one Australian tot who’s obsessed with Bunnings.
Previously, a four-year-old boy from Perth requested an all out Bunnings warehouse theme for his birthday.
‘When we were given the challenge of the Bunnings birthday we had to think of what the kids could do while they were at the party,’ his mum told FEMAIL.
‘So we had a “Garden Centre” in which we purchase pots and plants from Bunnings for the kids to plant and take home.
Kylie Stingers’ son Carter loves visiting Bunnings with his dad and when asked what kind of theme he wanted for his fourth birthday party, the answer was clear
‘We had a paint centre so the kids could paint their own plaster statues to take home as well.
‘All party favour bags had Bunnings merchandise in them (pencil cases with pencils, rulers, a balloon, blow up hammer and tennis ball) and we couldn’t have a Bunnings party without the famous sausage sizzle.’
The entire backyard of their house turned into a makeshift warehouse, with celebratory bunting, balloons and blow up toys on display in the iconic green shade.
The pride and joy! Carter’s birthday food table consisted of a Bunnings very famous sausage sizzle
The Perth-based family spent $160 on a Bunnings cake, which was made by Jessikat Kakes (left) and assembled Bunnings party bags (this pencil case was included)
The ‘Garden Centre’ was a huge hit and meant each of the party attendees could take a plant home
The Perth-based family spent $160 on a Bunnings cake, which was made by Jessikat Kakes, $50 on a banner from Officeworks, $30 on Carter’s outfit and all of the paraphernalia was kindly donated by a selection of stores.
‘I was desperate for anything, so put a post on my private Facebook page and it turns out a family member and friend from school both worked at Bunnings too but in the eastern states and Queensland,’ Mrs Stingers explained.
‘They were kind enough to source some merchandise for me and had it posted to Perth.
‘I also went to our local Bunnings and spoke to our activities coordinator who I told about our plans and she kindly donated us some merchandise as well. We are ever so grateful for these three ladies.’
Pictures from the party show an ecstatic four-year-old surrounded by some equally enthusiastic attendees – and Carter’s present was even more fitting
