Australian NBA star Ben Simmons has shown his support for Egg Boy with the teenager’s nickname emblazoned on his sneakers.

The 2018 Rookie of the Year had the nickname penned with a black marker on the side of his yellow Nikes, as the Philadelphia 76ers versed the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday.

Simmons’ gesture was a tribute to 17-year-old Australian Will Connolly, who smashed an egg on Senator Fraser Anning after he blamed Muslim immigration for the Christchurch mosque massacre.

His support for Egg Boy was captured by Sixers performance coach Paddy Steinfort, who posted it on an Instagram story.

Simmons also paid tribute to the 50 people who died and the dozens who were injured in Friday’s shootings by penning ‘PRAY FOR NZ’ on another pair of shoes during another game.

Senator Anning spoke at a press conference at Moorabin, in Melbourne’s south after his comments, when teenager Will Connolly cracked an egg over his head.

Connolly was punched in the face twice by Mr Anning before being tackled to the ground and put in a choke-hold by four of the Senator’s supporters.

The 17-year-old made international headlines and a crowdfunding account was set up for the teenager.

He raised over $50,000 and said he will donate the money to the victims’ families in New Zealand.

Connolly was arrested by police but was released without charge.
