Colonel Chea Heng, provincial Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department chief said Mr Paul became sick following his arrest.

‘After his arrest, he became sick and was sent to the provincial referral hospital for treatment,’ Col Heng said.

‘He is still in the hospital.’

He said Mr Paul will be sent to court for questioning after he recovers.

According to Khoem Vando, a child protection specialist with APLE Cambodia, Mulroy was being monitored and has been reported to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department for the alleged abuse.

Brother John Hilet, the principal at Trinity Catholic College said news about Mr Paul’s arrest came as a shock to students and staff.

‘You’re shocked in any situation like this … (but) certainly there’s a large group of former students who would all think highly of him,’ he told The Northern Star.

Brother John explained the school regularly partakes in the overseas trips and that Mr Paul prepared the Cambodia session.

‘He and another brother helped establish that particular immersion,’ Brother John said.

‘As soon as I was made aware of the allegations, I cancelled this year’s immersion.’

He said if anyone is aware or has any information regarding allegations of child abuse to go straight to the police.
