Australian shoppers rave about 7-Eleven’s $1 ParcelMate express postage service for Christmas

Shoppers are raving about 7-Eleven’s little-known $1 postage service that’s perfect for sending presents – but you’d better be quick

  • Aussies are raving about 7-Eleven’s parcel delivery service which costs $1 a bag
  • The frenzy began when a shopper posted a photo in a Facebook group
  • She had three parcels shipped for $3 – a fraction of the cost of Australia Post
  • The service is available Australia-wide only on Monday, December 7

An Australian woman has discovered an ingenious way to save big money on postage this Christmas: sending presents through 7-Eleven’s home delivery service.

ParcelMate, which operates in participating service stations across Queensland, Victoria, NSW, WA and the ACT, is offering postage to anywhere in Australia for just $1 per bag on Monday, December 7.

The bargain service has been available each Monday since November 23, but thousands only learned about it on Tuesday when a thrifty shopper shared the news in popular Facebook group, Markdown Addicts Australia.

‘Wow! Would have to be the cheapest postage in Australia right now,’ she posted alongside a photo of three packages stamped with ‘7-Eleven ParcelMate’ tags.

The shopper said she had the bags posted for just $3 in total – a fraction of the cost you would pay Australia Post which has hiked its prices significantly over the past two years.

‘All this posted for just $3 total! $1 per bag anywhere in Australia. Only on Mondays I believe,’ she wrote.

‘You can go in and pre-buy the bags for $1 and then post at a later date if you wish (just have to pre-enter recipients address details). Absolute bargain! Thanks 7-Eleven!’

Boxes and satchels are slapped with a flat rate on ParcelMate which means you won’t be charged by weight – a major draw card for anyone sending bulky Christmas presents.

The woman appears to have posted three ‘regular’ sized ParcelMate bags for $3.

Australia Post charges $12.45 for medium satchels and $15.70 for large satchels, as well as extra costs depending on weight.

The revelation about the low-cost Australia-wide delivery service, which has racked up almost 2,000 ‘likes’ and more than 700 comments since it was uploaded on Tuesday, has drawn some ecstatic responses.

‘Okay just been to our local 7-Eleven and picked up a bag!’ one woman replied.

How does the $1 ParcelMate delivery service work?

Availing of the $1 ParcelMate service is simple.

Just head into a participating 7-Eleven store with the item you want shipped and go to the ParcelMate packaging bay where there are screens to enter shipment and payment details.

Then go to the 7-Eleven ParcelMate locker to lodge it.

The service is available around Australia at any time, but the $1 price only lasts until Monday, December 7.

However, you can pre-buy $1 bags before then and ship them at a later date.

‘You should use this instead of Aus Post,’ another added, while a third said: ‘How amazing is this!’

Responding to queries about the efficiency of the service, the original poster said she received ‘full tracking email notifications from lodgement to delivery’ and would ‘rate this service 100 percent’.

‘Absolutely faultless process,’ she added.

Another customer confirmed her endorsement, writing: ‘Folks, I posted something yesterday from regional Queensland and just got a notification it has been delivered today to metro Victoria!’
