Australian Survivor: Crew help the contestants search for immunity idols

‘You use it to your advantage’: Australian Survivor’s Simon Mee reveals the camera crew help the contestants search for immunity idols

He was voted off Australian Survivor: Brains vs Brawn during Tuesday’s episode, with two immunity idols in his pocket.

And following his elimination, Simon Mee has revealed surprising details of what goes on behind the scenes when the contestants are looking for idols.

The 31-year-old carpenter told The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday the cameramen unwittingly assist the participants in their search.

‘You use it to your advantage’: Australian Survivor’s Simon Mee has revealed the camera crew help the contestants search for immunity idols

‘When you go looking for an idol, you’ve got a cameraman following you and usually what happens is you are out there looking and the cameraman tilts his camera down to where the idol is hiding before you’ve found it… Do you ever see them do that and that’s a giveaway?’ host Jackie O Henderson asked.

Simon explained: ‘As a fan of the show, you know they’ve always got to get that shot, so you are aware of where the cameras are. You have to use that to your advantage.’

However, he admitted searching for idols is still ‘tough’ and following the cameras ‘isn’t very helpful’.

‘There is so much going on and so much moving around. I don’t think it helps. They are professional and they are very good at what they are doing,’ Simon said.

Simon was the victim of the ultimate blindside when he was voted out of Australian Survivor: Brains vs Brawn on Tuesday night.

The brutal new alliance saw him get his torch snuffed at tribal council, sending him home with two immunity idols in his pocket.

It was a bitter ending for the Survivor superfan who was unshakable only moments before the vote sent him home.

He overheard Baden setting up the ousting with George and Cara, only to confidently interrupt him.

‘You guys want to say something? Sorry, Baden, I didn’t mean to interrupt,’ Simon said.

As host Jonathan LaPaglia read out the votes it still didn’t seem to dawn on him that he would be going home, as rivals Dani and Flick were thought to have the numbers.

Simon finally realised after his fifth vote was read out that he would be leaving.

‘Blindside! I must be one of the first people to leave with not one but two idols in my back pocket,’ he said.
