‘People in general seemed really healthy’: Australian Survivor star Janine Allis reveals the benefits of the show’s extreme diet… despite her shocking weight loss
She recently revealed that she’d dropped 8kg during her time on Australian Survivor and even thought her a protruding rib was a lump on her breast.
But on Thursday, Janine Allis said that despite her extreme weight loss, the show’s low-carb diet, consisting of mainly rice and beans, is actually beneficial because it excludes artificial flavours and preservatives.
Speaking to News.com.au, she said: ‘People in general seemed really healthy. Their skin was clear, their eyes were white.’

She added: ‘We were all very fatigued because we didn’t get enough calories but for instance the ex-athletes who’d had a lot of injuries, and a lot of inflammation around those injuries, that basically vanished.’
Janine said that all the foods the contestants consumed were ‘pretty much natural’ and had plenty of benefits.
‘We were eating food that was pretty much natural with no artificial flavours or preservatives. Take all of that out of our diet, and people were actually really healthy.’

Despite praising certain aspects of the harsh diet, Janine has revealed that she lost so much weight during the show she thought she felt a lump in her breast – only to realise it was her rib.
The Boost Juice founder dropped eight kilograms from her already small frame during her time in Fiji and became painfully thin.
She explained that her dramatic weight loss resulted in a cancer scare.
‘It was actually my rib cage’: Despite the diet’s benefits, Janine has also revealed that she lost much during the show she thought she felt a lump in her breast – only to realise it was a rib
Speaking to WHO magazine, she said: ‘I had seriously no fat at all, and all I could feel was skin on top of my ribs.’
‘I felt my breast and I thought, “Oh, my God, there’s a lump”. But it was actually my rib cage,’ she added.
Janine explained that her body also went into ‘starvation mode’ during filming, and she wanted to eat everything in sight when she returned to civilisation.
