The beauty industry is relentlessly trying to help women wind back the ageing clock and enjoy youthful, glowing skin for longer.
But in bad news for Australians, two Melbourne-based dermatologists have discovered that ladies from Down Under age up to 20 years faster than those in the US or UK.
Associate Professor Greg Goodman and Dr Katherine Armour surveyed a total of 3,267 women from all races and ethnicities in Australia, Canada, the UK and USA.
Aussie females reported significantly more severe signs of aging at younger ages and a greater degree of change with age for most features than women from the other countries, particularly the USA (stock image)

The targeted features they were looking at included the glabellar (skin between the eyebrows), crows feet lines, tear troughs (under the eyes) and nasolabial folds (next to the nose).
Of the 1,400 Australian who participated in the study 83 per cent of 24-47-year-olds had moderate to severe photoageing and every year of age after 30 years and up to 54 years significantly increased the odds of photoaged skin.

This confronting research caused the dermatologists to launch the Bespoke Skin Technology range to help fight the major signs of ageing (ambassador Nikki Phillips pictured)
In comparison the Dutch group of 24-49-year-olds with the moderate to severe issues were just seven per cent.
The differences in skin can be put down to Australia’s exposure to harsh UV radiation and generally living a traditionally outdoor lifestyle.

There are only four products in the range, making it easy to keep on top of, with a day and night cream, zinc stick and lip ‘shield’ on offer
‘DNA damage in the skin can be measured, so it is possible to track the deterioration or restoration of the cells. Ultimately, the accumulation of DNA lesions can cause cell death, cell mutation and skin cancer; a bleak picture indeed,’ the website reads.
‘We do know that topically applying DNA repair enzymes enhances the body’s natural DNA repair process. Numerous laboratory and clinical studies now show that topically applied DNA repair enzymes, such as Micrococcus Lysate, Arabidopsis Thaliana Extract and Plankton extract, can repair this DNA damage.
‘Bespoke harnesses all three of these ingredients to aid the DNA repair process.’
