A group of young Australian women have shared how much money they expect their partners to fork out for an engagement ring.
Men’s lifestyle website Man of Many took to the streets to ask different women the question – and their eyewatering answers shocked thousands.
The majority of the women said they expect their partner to spend no less than $8,000 while others expect a quarter of their salary to go towards a ring. The most common answer was $10,000.
A video posted on TikTok quickly captured the attention of more than 1.4million people who weighed in on the responses.
In the clip, one woman wasn’t too sure how to answer the question but then revealed she expects ‘a quarter of his yearly salary to be spent – or around $20,000. Another woman told her boyfriend she would ideally like the ring to be worth between $8,000-$10,000

Another woman told her boyfriend she would ideally like the ring to be worth between $8,000-$10,000.
‘He was literally relieved because he thought I was going to say about $20,000,’ she said.
A third wasn’t too sure about the perfect price range but would ideally like a ‘beautiful ring with a real diamond’.
A British woman was asked the lingering question and she said ideally around £5,000 ($10,000 AUD).
‘Of course I expect too much from my boyfriend … maybe $9,000,’ another said.

However, the responses caused a stir and opinions were divided.
‘Three months salary is the norm,’ one woman wrote in the comments of the video.
‘I’d say $3,000. $10-$20k is insane,’ another said.
‘I’d rather we spent the money on a holiday together and just get a nice simple ring,’ another added.
One woman didn’t want her partner spending so much money and wrote: ‘If he spends over $1000 I’ll be mad.’
‘What if it was $60? Because that’s what my partners was,’ another asked in response, and she said: ‘Even better!’
However, given the ongoing cost of living crisis sweeping across the nation, others said spending extravagant amounts of money on engagement rings is ‘outdated’.
‘This is so absurd in 2023. Wouldn’t you rather your partners money go towards your shared life together rather than a blood diamond?’ one wrote.
‘No way I’m giving a ring to a chick who expects a certain value. Married 20 years, ring was $500 when we both made six figures,’ another said.
