Australians can download a free app to unsubscribe from emails you signed up to in one swipe

Sick of spam emails? The app that unsubscribes you from companies you’ve signed up to in a single swipe

  • Unroll.Me collects all your subscription emails so you can choose which to keep
  • The free service allows you to unsubscribe, ‘roll up’ for later or keep the emails
  • It is available to Australian iOS users – who can resubscribe to emails at any time
  • The savvy app has millions of users worldwide after being founded in the US

An innovative app allows you to unsubscribe from unwanted newsletter emails simply by swiping up on your phone.

Unroll.Me is available for free on the Australian App Store and gives you the option to either unsubscribe, ‘roll up’ the emails to be read later or keep them in your inbox.

Choosing the second category means the service will send you all your newsletters in a single email – meaning you will no longer be bombarded by dozens of subscription emails a day.

It works for both sales, newsletter emails and automated mailing software, gathering them together in one place for the app to sort through.

As well as its main swipe function, Unroll.Me also includes a list of all the companies emailing you so can re-subscribe whenever you want.

The app has garnered millions of users since it was founded by Jojo Hedaya almost a decade ago while he was at university in the US.

But it will benefit from an influx of Australian users after the podcast Shameless promoted the service this week.

Unroll.Me courted controversy in 2017 after The New York Times reported Unroll.Me had been selling data to Uber.

The ride-share company would then analyse email receipts from rival platforms such as Lyft to keep a track on how they were doing.

In a blog post following consumer outrage over the revelation, Mr Hedaya apologised and said Unroll.Me had not been explicit enough about their privacy policy.

Their website now has a tab on its navigation bar called ‘how we use data’.

The page details how the app has changed how it explains its data collection practices ‘in an effort to provide as much information’ as possible to users.
