Thousands of Australian’s have signed up to an new app to find temporary work as the need for extra cash grows.

With the cost of living continually rising, freelance work has become increasingly popular and millennials have had to search for extra work to supplement their salaries.

An Australian app, called Sidekicker, has been helping make it easier for staff to find that type of work.

In need of extra cash? Finding temporary work at the click of a button is now possible thanks to a new Australian app

The app taps into the ‘gig economy’, which is a term to describe an increase in demand for temporary work. It emerged after the global financial crisis in 2008.

Sidekicker works by providing an online platform for staff seeking temporary work to connect with employers.

Sidekicker is similar to apps like Uber where users are rated and reviewed for their service.

Workers sign-up online and then log into the app where they have a list of jobs on offer. The work is typically hourly or daily jobs.

Rob Willis, of Canvas Events, uses the app to hire temporary staff.

All the staff are screened on relevant experience and certifications, he told ABC.

‘They are rated and reviewed after every job that they do on the Sidekicker platform so I suppose all that work is taken off your hands. It just saves a lot of time.’

How Sidekicker works

– Job seekers sign up online

-Create a profile listing experience

-Sidekicker screens the application

– Short-term jobs are listed

– Workers select which jobs they want

The Sidekicker website says it offers a flexible way for workers to make money, gain experience and take control over when and where they work.

Open up the app and it shows how much the job is paying, where it is and when.

A ReachTEL survey commissioned by the Australian Council of Trade Unions found that only one in five Australians received a pay rise big enough to cover their living costs in the past year.
