Autistic teen claimed he was beaten up by an African gang ‘made the whole thing up’

Autistic teen who claimed he was beaten up by an African gang while walking to a nightclub ‘made the whole thing up’, police say

  • Jayden D’Abaco, 19, told police he was walking to a club when he was attacked
  • The teenager, who has autism, was taken to hospital with a fractured cheekbone
  • Police said an investigation was launched and ‘no offences were detected’

A teenager who said he was brutally beaten by an African gang is expected to be charged with making a false statement.

Jayden D’Abaco, 19, told police he was walking to Mynt Lounge nightclub in Werribee, Melbourne, at around 10.45pm on August 25 when he was attacked by a gang of up to eight people.

The teenager, who has autism, was taken to hospital with a fractured cheekbone, bruising around his body and throat and a bad cut to his head.

But police told Daily Mail Australia on Saturday that ‘no offences have been detected’.

‘After a thorough investigation into a report of an assault in Werribee during the evening of 25 August, Victoria Police can confirm that no offences have been detected.

‘Victoria Police has provided appropriate support and referrals to parties involved.

‘A 19-year-old man is expected to be charged on summons for submitting a false report to police.’

But Mr D’Abaco has denied the police claims.

‘If my report was fake I wouldn’t have two broken cheekbones a fractured nose and two fractured ribs and wouldn’t have been in a neck brace.’

The teenager’s mother Tess D’Abaco also explained she believed the investigation was still underway, and said she understood police did not intend to arrest her son.

‘He was definitely attacked,’ Ms D’Abaco said.

‘Jayden is sticking by his story, and I know that boy’s not lying.

‘He doesn’t understand the severity of the situation because of his disability, but he also doesn’t understand why no one will believe him now.’

The mum-of-two also said she believed her son was scared of his alleged attacker.

‘Jayden’s story hasn’t changed since his very first statement, and I was told by the sergeant we’re working with today that he’s not being charged.’
